Kaera inhaled a deep breath through her nose then exhaled with a sigh of satisfaction. She loved the smell of the forest. The feel of the forest. The gentle breeze swaying the branches, the white noise of a hundred hundred pokemon in the background in a variety of distances. She tapped the pokeballs on her hip. Now with a Ramparados and a Gloom to wield, she'd be able to catch all of the Bug Pokemon she could find! Up to five, at least, since that was all of the pokeballs she had.
Six, she reminded herself I got that greatball. She looked over her shoulder at Arcen, one of her fellow students at the Academy and a boy who expressed an interest in bugs. "Lets go Arcen!" seh said as she ran with vigor and excitement into the forest.

Arcen lacked the deep love for the forest that so many seemed to have. He saw it as a place to go hunting for pokemon, a place to train hard, not much more than that. He stared at Kaera, wondering what was going through her mind. It wasn't too hard to guess. When she turned to look at him, he changed his thoughtful look to one of excitement, mirroring her expression. "Alright, I'm coming!"
As soon as she was out of sight, Arcen sighed. She was far too... excited... for his taste. Still... He needed her help if he was to be successful in this expedition at all. He needed a Heracross for its strength against dark types, and he was willing to put up with anything for it. He touched the pokeballs that were clipped into his belt, pausing for a long while at Alacer's. Alacer... I hope you're ready for this... At last, we're not at a disadvantage here. He gripped it tightly and pulled it from his belt before setting off after the excited girl.

Kaera didn't move as fast as she would like through the forest, but she was used to that now. It seemed that nobody at the school could match her ability to move through the trees with the ease of a fish in water. Resigned to a slower pace of exploration, she kept herself in check so that she didn't loose Arcen among the trees and shrubs.
"So Arcen," she said, trying to get some conversation going, "What kind of bugs are you looking for? Anything in particular or would you be happy with whatever we end up finding?"

- Mod Post - As the two Trainers journeyed through the forest, the incessant buzzing of bugs never seemed to stop. In every nook and cranny of this area, sounds of wings clicking and bugs buzzing seemed to fill the entire area, every spot just seemed to radiate bugs. Which was probably a good thing since the two students would have ample chances of catching Bug Types in this given journey. As you two came to a halt, several paths lay before you. Which one will you take? Choices: >South West >South East >North West >North East There is no turning back once you have chosen your path. - Mod Post -

Kaera stopped when they came to the four way intersection. She looked down each of the paths and thought to herself the layout of the forest. The greatest way to get deeper into these woods was to head due east. She pointed to the clutch of bushes between the North East and South East trail and said "Hey Arcen, wanna just head straight through here? The best bugs stay away from the beaten paths ya know." she said.

Arcen paused when they came across the intersection. He had been listening to Kaera, but had been pondering on how to answer her question, when they got there. "Well..." he mused. He spoke up so that she could hear him as he continued, "What I'm really after here is a Heracross. But something is better than nothing." He scanned the area again. It would probably make sense to head deeper into the forest. And what Kaera said was true. Most pokemon, it seemed, liked to stay away from the paths that were well worn. Arcen himself, in fact, liked to stay away from the paths that were well worn. "Alright," he agreed. "Let's go through that way." He waited for her to take the lead.

- Mod Post - As you two had decided to take the untaken path and prove yourselves worthy, it had ultimately led you anyway towards the winding path of the North East. The beaten path, actually, not so beaten as it was pretty much unrecognizable due to the vast amounts of foliage in the area. Then, a different kind of green suddenly glinted off in the north. Kaera loved trudging through the real forest, not just walking along a prefabricated trail. Not being as ignorant of others as she had been earlier in her education here at teh Academy, she didn't just tear off and leave Arcen to fend for himself; she stayed slow and held branches and bushes aside for him as his clothing clearly wasn't meant to be trudging through the forest the hard way.
The forest began to thin out, however, and Kaera's slowed progress courtesy of Arcen wasn't worth how much more ground they could cover if they stayed in the grass covered trail. She was trying to think of some smalltalk as traveling in silence could get a little uncomfortable when something green moved off to the side. She looked and squinted into the trees. "Did you see that?" she asked quietly.

Arcen was only half aware of the path before him, but nonetheless he was grateful that she was helping him through. He liked the wild tangles around him, but getting through them was a much harder physical exercise than he was used to. He breathed heavily and his face began to shine a bit with sweat as he clambered over the branches. His black jacket helped bring heat into his body, and he wished that there was more shade. Maybe when they got deeper into the forest...
Suddenly he stopped stock still. Despite his heavy breathing, he was still perfectly alert and observational. A few moments later, Kaera stopped as well and asked "Did you see that?" Indeed he did see the green moving across the his vision. He whipped Alacer's pokeball off his belt and was ready to release her in an instant. As he did this, he replied quickly, voice steady and calm, "I saw it. It was green so... definitely not a Heracross. Still, if you are interested in it, I'll go with you." He licked his lips, painfully aware of every wasted millisecond.

- Mod Post - As you two had somehow just stayed in the area, another flash of green appeared in the far left. Bushes rustling loudly as several webs could be discerned hanging from the tree tops. Also, several buzzing noises had started to appear over head which could only mean bugs. That's what you came here for right? Kaera's eyes caught another flash of green and when she turned to look she found nothing but a few webs hanging down from the trees. She made a face then looked back in the direction of the first green glimpse she saw. It was an unknown green- a green without evidence. The green that had just presented itself seemed a little obvious to her- Spinarak. She did want a spinarak...but if the other green was a Scyther.....
"Hey Arcen," Kaera said, "Which way do you wanna go? I'll follow you cuz I really can't decide."

Arcen narrowed his eyes. Decisions had to be made, and quickly too. Not that they mattered all too much to him. He just wanted a Heracross, but if they came across something that Kaera didn't want he might consider capturing it. The webs, coupled with the greenish color he could just make out between the leaves, indicated Spinarak. They could do much worse than Spinarak. He nodded towards it and mumured, "Let's go after the second flash of green."
"Let's go, Alacer," he said quietly. She burst out of her pokeball and began to flutter around his head erratically. It's two on one, he thought to himself. We'll win for sure. "Aim a good Wing Attack at that Spinarak!" Alacer instantly and gracefully went from fluttering around his head to shooting towards the slightly different shade of green which her master had assumed was a Spinarak. Her wings were glowing white by the time she reached it, and was ready to strike at it.

- Mod Post - Having chosen to go after the more webbed area of the choices, Alacer the Zubat had quickly flown with a 'Wing Attack' at the assumed Spinarak. With a squeal, a rain of String Shots suddenly burst through the bushes as it had formed a web of sorts in the path of the flying Zubat. Some rustling in the bushes and it seemed to have quieted down but all was not right when a Caterpie was left behind by its group, being thrown out into the open space. "Haha!" Kaera couldn't help but laugh a bit as the Zubat was impeded by a web of string shots. She watched as a lone Caterpie emerged from the hideout of the group as it fled. "Awesome," she said, grabbing Ramparados's pokeball and letting the dinosaur out. It slammed into the ground with its massive feet and glared down at the Caterpie. Butthead bent over and roared at the small bug pokemon, meanwhile swatting Kaera to the side with his massive tail.
"Ouch," kaera grumbled after hitting the ground. She scrambled back to her feet and looked at Butthead, who was stil staring down the Caterpie. "Scary Face!" she shouted. It wasn't that hard for Butthead to pull one of those off...he might have been doing it already. "Headbutt!" she followed up. The large dinosaur reared its head back and slamme dit down towards teh Caterpie.

- Mod Post - Just the very sight of the Ramparados was enough to send the little Caterpie into a frozen state. The Scary Face was uncalled for as the Rampardos greatly lessened the Caterpies deplorable speed. As things were, the Caterpie was frozen stiff. Then it got hit by the Head Butt. Over Kill much? The Caterpie was slammed by the attack and bounced off the floor, flying towards the side of the bushes. You could hear rocks falling down and stuff that somehow might be related to something falling down a hill. Kaera watched with triumph on her face as Ramparados slammed into the little Caterpie...and sent it flying out and away. She heard it tumbling down a hill and frown. "Darn..." she groaned, "I wanted to catch that." She looked over at Arcen and asked "So.....wanna head back that way," she pointed over her shoulder with her thumb to indicate the direction she meant, "And see what that other green pokemon was? Probably more interesting than a caterpie anyway."

Arcen said quickly, "Alacer, down!" She snapped her wings to her sides to avoid the String Shot. He sighed and wiped his forehead. Perhaps today was not a good day to go out... "Poor Caterpie," he mumbled as it went flying. He looked longing towards the shadier parts of the forest and shook his head to clear it. "Yeah. Let's go see what the other thing was." Alacer picked herself up from the ground and angrily cast about with a brief shriek. Arcen offered an arm up to her, and she hesitated before landing sulkily.

- Mod Post - When you two had decided to not chase after whatever fell down that hill, probably some kind of useless or whatever green stone that was. Deciding to follow the green glint that was appearing again, the path had led you to a gigantic boulder. Several small rocks can be found littering the place. Some rocks though, they were pretty big. Big enough that they where half your size. The ground was also sort of soft yet firm. I wonder what's happening? Kaera nodded and followed Arcen back in that direction before taking a lead again. The green glint flashed off to one side and she bolted through the bushes to find what was there. Not a pokemon, but a large crop of rocks strewn about haphazardly in the forest. "Neat..." she said, looking around, kicking some of the small stones.
She looked down into the piles of rubble. "Seems like something was broken here" she said, thinking aloud more than talking to Arcen. She found a particularly out of place pile of stones and started kicking some of them aside, kneeling down to dig manually. "I wonder if anything's buried around here" she said, looking up to Arcen, "Think its likely?"

Arcen winced as she kicked at the smaller rocks. He wanted to point out that it would be best to figure out what this was with the least about of disturbance to it possible, but she was already kneeling down and beginning to move them aside. He sighed inwardly. Oh well. I suppose moving rocks around isn't exactly rocket science. It should be fine. Alacer chirruped quietly, barely audible to Arcen even though she was practically hanging on his shoulder. Shooting a curious side glance at her, he strode over to Kaera and rested on one knee.
He shrugged nonchalantly at her question. "Who knows? We could be on the edge of a landslide caused by simple erosion, or..." His last word was quiet and subdued as he went into a reverie. He absent mindedly picked up a small rock and ran his fingers over its rough, broken surface.

Kaera sighed and stood back up, rubbing her back and knees. "I thought I saw that green...thing head this way." she groaned, sitting on one of the larger boulders. She looked around for Arcen then asked "Have you seen anything?" She didn't want to tell him, but to her the glint had seemed to look like a Heracross shell, though it was green like a Scyther. A new pokemon? A crossbreed? Scythercross? Herascyth? Herather? Scycross? That would be amazing if she discovered a new pokemon. And a bug pokemon at that... she thought.

He looked up as she stood and sat down heavily. He threw another rock aside and glanced in the direction that he had last seen the glint. "No," he mused. "I haven't seen anything. We could keep looking but then again... Heracross don't dig." He glanced over the rubble distastefully and stood up. He looked again for the green glint and shrugged. "We may as well follow whatever that other thing was." He turned to face the direction that he had last seen the glint, and started walking that way.

- Mod Post - That was...actually a lucky or unlucky break for you two. When the two of you have already went to follow the other glint, a pair of Makuhitas had quickly jumped from the bushes and started attacking the rocks. Of course, neither you two noticed this. Back to you two, another split in the path appeared. One was very much like a swamp while the other was filled to the brim with thorns. When Kaera did not take the lead, Arcen pushed ahead of her. "What's the matter?" he asked her. He looked at the two paths. The one full of thorns looked somewhat foreboding, but he wasn't sure if he had a choice. He didn't think Heracross liked swamps too much, and the swamp was much more open. Alacer would probably be able to get more advantage out of the quick manuevers that she could manage in the tangles of thorns. "Let's go," he said, striding straight towards the path full of thorns. He pulled Alacer into her pokeball so that she wouldn't get tired out from flying around.

Arcen clambered away from the sludge as quickly as he could, scowling. This just ruined his plans completely! He backed up towards the thorns until he was nearly pressed against them. Luckily, the flood of... whatever it was... seemed like it was staying on its course. He turned and called out, "Kaera?" When there was no answer, he grumbled under his breath, "Perfect. Just when I find someone to help me..." He turned away, "I'll have to tell her that I ran off scared... if I ever even see her again." Then he looked ahead to the thorns and began to push them aside gingerly as he headed slowly through them.

At last, he breathed a sigh of relief as he tugged himself free of the last thorny brambles. He could feel the sting of several small cuts, but it didn't look like any were really bleeding much. He turned his attention ahead of him and his breath caught. Heracross... perfect...
Arcen's excited ambition urged him to jump straight into battle, but he forced himself to calm down and take it one step at a time. Though he longed to get a headstart and attack it with the most powerful flying type move that Alacer could manage, he knew that capturing the Heracross was only half the battle. Then he would have to convince the creature that he was a worthy master.
He cleared his throat and looked away from the Heracross to present less of an aggressive look, as though he were more interested in the trees. Nonetheless, he still sidled closer, keeping the Heracross in his peripheal vision in case it attacked suddenly or tried to flee. He was ready to deal with either, both hands casually on his waist near Alacer's pokeball on his belt.
