It was a striking image. A boy standing in the middle of a field surrounded by pokemon. The wild pokemon of the area had seen the boy there since this morning and while they kept away from the boy they realized he wasn't a threat.
Sitting on the boy's head was a small bird. Blue in color with cotton like wings, Elsie, Yuki's Swablu sat in contentment on her partner's head. She as his first pokemon had claimed the spot for herself. Flying around him in a spiral were five more bird pokemon. All of the same type. Five Taillow that he had somehow ended up with after an odd episode on the mountain side.
The six flying pokemon had followed their trainer out of the dorms. And while four of the five Taillow gang were not necessary his pokemon they stuck to the boy as their leader was in his care. Hoping for a nice day to relax the boy had wondered into the plains and just wondered. It reminded him of the road, and he spent some time bonding with his pokemon.
At the moment, the Taillow gang were playing some unnamed flying game that revolved around flying in circles. Elsie not as quick as the other five happily sat on his head and trilled out some nonsensical tune. And Yuki, well he just watched his pokemon with a small smile on his face.
"God I'm bored."

Through the endless and annoying amount of tall grass, Laz finally found his way through. The dirt on his head minimal but the sweat matting it was slightly obvious. As of now, Laz was just wearing his pants and took of the beige coat he usually wore and was just in his shoulder bag as he trekked through the now empty field. Letting Kostya out from his Pokeball, the ever comforting presence of the Gastly made Laz feel like he wasn't alone. As Kostya jovially kept going around in circles before finally landing on Laz's Right shoulder, it's usual spot when traveling.
Next came two white flashes that ended up with Vulcan, a Red Houndoom, and Freiya, a Luxio. The two were finally on semi-friendly terms. Freiya wasn't even trying to snap Vulcan's neck so that was probably a good thing. The two still got into their fair share of squabbles though. A Light tap on both of their backs and Debris the Dwebble and Loki the Seedot appeared on their backs. Dwebble on Vulcan and Loki on Freiya.
The group of six, one Trainer and five Pokemon, trekked through the plains, with the farm house as their destination. Freiya and Loki were strangers to the area and Laz thought that it would be better for them to know the lay of the land and all that.

"Hau~" Yuki sighed. He had wanted to take a break for nonsense and excitement. But now that he had spent more than half an hour in the quiet he realized that it was boring. "I guess there's a reason I'm always doing something on the road."
The Taillow Gang had mostly spread out and gone in different directions. Eiji had stayed with his trainer but the rest were free to come and go as they pleased. So Yuki was left with his trilling Swablu on his head and a half passed out Taillow on his right shoulder. A few stray pokemon had come close to listen to Elsie's song, but Yuki left them alone.
A rustling noise broke him out of his thoughts and he turned to the side. Another boy had walked into the field. All around him were several different pokemon. A trainer. Probably another student here.
"Yo." Yuki threw up a hand in a lazy wave and took a moment to analyze the pokemon. He recognized the Gastly, Seedot and Luxio right away, coming from Hoeun and all, but it took him a moment to recognize the Hondoom. That last one, a crab like pokemon in a shell completely flew past him. Probably a Sinnoh pokemon or from another obscure area.
Yuki made a note not to battle this guy. 5 on 2 with experienced pokemon wouldn't go that well.

"Hey."
Laz responded to the greeting along with a bored wave of his hand. The Red Head looked at the student who, in his opinion, looked bored as hell before checking out the two pokemon. There was a bunch of Cotton lying on the boys head, so most definitely a Swablu. If it wasn't, well Laz didn't exactly know of any other species that had Cotton like wings and an Altaria would've been to big for that place. The other pokemon was a Taillow who looked liked it was about to get KO'ed by a breeze.
"What's up?" It was best to start a conversation when one was bored and amazingly enough, Vulcan wasn't intent on trying to fight anything, the lack of red in its teeth was what gave it away. Laz inwardly smiled, at least the Houndoom knew something else besides fighting. Freiya was at least behaving, the electricity that usually comes out of its mouth wasn't there as well.

Yuki gave a small shrug. He felt Eiji chirp angrily at him at the sudden shift before flying to the ground. Elsie continued her trilling undisturbed by the new people.
"Not much." He eyed both the Luxio and the Houndoom wearily. He really didn't like the looks they were giving Elsie and Eiji. "I was just chilling in the plains." He rolled his neck and felt a small bit of amusement that Elsie was not displaced at all in the movement. "Thought I'd chill for a while, maybe see what kind of pokemon were in the area."
So far all he had seen were things like Zigzagoons and Sentret. Nothing special and nothing he really wanted to catch. He thought he saw an Electrike, but it ran away before he could get a good look at it.
"You?"

"Just walking around. My Luxio and Seedot hasn't been around this area so I thought it'd help if I took them for a walk."
Laz responded with a slightly bored tone. Info gathering and anything related to that was never his strong suit but the chances were still there and Laz would rather have more success than failure on his hands.
"Wanna come with me? It gets boring just standing around." Laz extended the invitation to the guy. Besides, making another friend wouldn't be so bad.

"Meh, why not." Yuki quickly balled Eiji as the bird looked like it was ready to take a nap and pushed a cotton wing out of his face. He was getting rather bored of sitting in a field doing nothing.
Elsie had switch from a nonsensical tune to the theme of Legend of Zelda. Yuki wondered briefly where the bird learned the tune before brushing himself off and tilted his head towards the boy. "I'm Yuki. You?"

"Laz. Nice to meet you." Laz shrugged the greeting as the two of them walked around the place. Laz was just looking forward, letting the Luxio do the sniffing and memorizing of the place. Freiya was smart enough to know what to do.
"Awesome Swablu. Not only does it become an Altaria, it knows how to sing the Legend of Zelda theme. Where'd you get it?"

"Elsie? I got her as my starter." Yuki smiled softly and patted the bird on her head which got him a small swat from a cotton wing. "She's been good. Though I do miss my own pokemon." Yuki's voice turned wistful as he recalled his own team. He didn't have too many pokemon but the few he did have he missed dearly.
He shook off the nostalgia and turned back to Laz, "As for her evolving. I'm not so sure I can see her as something as majestic as an Altaria." The quip got another cotton swatting from the annoyed bird. Yuki chuckled and grinned. "But I've seen weirder things happen."

"If it ever does or even if it doesn't, I'd be interested to know how far my Gastly can go." Laz responded with a chuckle as Yuki got swatted by it's own pokemon.
'Well, he has experience at least. A former Trainer outside the school huh?' Laz thought to himself as he chuckled a bit more. Looking at Kostya, Laz waved his hand through him.
"Kostya over here, I can't even touch him but he's my starter. He's a loyal one, this Gastly." Laz laughed as Kostya circled around his head again, getting a few quips from his other pokemon.
"Of course, Vulcan, my houndoom, Freiya, my Luxio, Debris, my Dwebble and Loki, my Seedot are all loyal to me and I wouldn't desert them as well."
Laz petted the two quad pedaled who mulled a bit in content as Loki and Debris skittered to his shoulders. Kostya on the other just contently floated above Laz's head. It had a better view at least.
"Master Ysal is a very kind Trainer. He's taken care of us all and even went as far as endangering his own life to make sure we were okay. I would gladly follow him to even beyond the gates of hell."
Kostya quipped in that too regal voice within all the heads of the pokemon nearby.
"Also, I noticed that four other Taillows have kept following us. They yours?"

Yuki smiled at the fellow student. It was always nice to trainers that treated their pokemon well. Elsie smiled at the Gastly and chirped back about how fun Yuki was.
When the comment about the Taillow came up, Yuki started to laugh in embarrassment. "Haha, that's a long story. Their leader is my pokemon and after I treated all of their injuries well, they think of me as their new leader."
"I tend to get into odd situation." He scratched the back of his head. He had to catch Elsie from falling off a cliff, got ambushed by a squad of Scyther and then there was the Paras squad. Geez he really did get into a lot of trouble didn't he.

"Ha, that's a new one." Laz laughed, just imagining how funny it would be seeing a bunch of Taillows saluting with bandages and uniforms at Yuki.
"Odd situations huh? You consider almost falling down a Volcano trying to save a Houndoom from falling in the Magma Odd?"
Laz questioned, remembering that incident at the Volcano where Vulcan was trying to commit suicide or something. Thank God Professor Rockwell was there, he would've been nothing but liquid if it wasn't for him.

"That's... a bit much..." Yuki trailed off and looked at the boy next to him wearily. He was all for saving people and pokemon, and he had gotten into situations just as dangerous before, but... "I mean, yeah.... that's a bit much for weird."
"That would be in the dangerously stupid category." Yuki muttered to himself. Sadly enough, Yuki had been in several situations just as dangerous with no heed for his own health before.
"I just mean things like, being attacked by a swarm of Paras or falling into a sink hole and... well surfing on top of Diglets to get out." Yuki raised his voice again and listed some of his odd happenings. One was on this island and the other back on his journey.

"I guess so. Then again, yours sound just as dangerous." Laz chuckled as the two came around a small pond filled with small and young Magikarp. This was a new place, even for Laz. He didn't exactly remember there being any ponds on the field.
"This is new, first time I saw a pond in the area." Laz said as both Vulcan and Freiya let Debris and Loki down before lapping at the water. They were thirsty at least. Find a small outcrop of a boulder, Laz sat down on it and picked up a pebble.
"So Yuki, how was life outside this Academy?"

"You can survive a fall, lava isn't as safe." Yuki sighed. He couldn't see how his was anymore dangerous. He gave the pond a quick glance but didn't see anything spectacular. He was probably spoiled by the great lakes in Houen. Now those were a sight to see.
Yuki watched Elsie fly over to the pond and start cleaning her wings with a smile on his face. "Ah, it's alright I suppose. I've really only been around Houen, but traveling is fun. New places, new friends, and everyday is an adventure."
He tried to recall the last big thing he had done before heading home, but it was a blur. "I traveled from town to town and helped a bunch of people. I won a few badges too, but I wasn't really trying for a league or anything so that was more for the sake of battling the gym leaders than anything. I tried a contest once, but it wasn't really my style."
"It was fun." Yuki stretched lightly, "But it was also a hassle. You had to carefully ration all your supplies and sleeping in a tent day after day isn't that comfortable. Like all things, it has it's pros and cons."

"Well, all I had going for me was the huge fields where I can keep on running. Parents were too strict and we sorta had a falling out."
Laz recalled that night with all the angst and emo moments. Throwing the rock and making it skip on the pond, reaching all the way across the other side, it wasn't a really big pond.
"How may Badges did you win? I'm pretty sure you're one of the more talented bunch if anything."

"Honestly, I only won a few." Yuki tilted his head and tried to recall which leaders he beat. "I managed to beat Flannery, Watson and Norman. So the fire gym, the electric gym and I think Norman had a Normal type theme. I did face those psychic twins early in my journey but they beat me pretty badly."
Yuki shrugged. "I didn't really travel for the sake of gathering badges. It was just something to do really." The gym battles were just when nothing strange happened when he visited a city. Which wasn't that often. He had to visit Petalburg three times before nothing happened and he got to battle Norman.

-Battle Post- As both Trainers just idly stood by and watched the lake, talking about experiences and the such, the started to ripple a white light was coming off of it. Around the corner of their vision, a rampaging Pinsir was running towards the pond, seemingly angry at the world and wanting to vent on some Magikarp or something. -Battle Post- Laz was just idly sitting by, his pokemon lying all around him and taking a break from the seemingly long walk from the grassy areas. A sudden white light interrupted his thoughts as a Poliwrath came out of the pond, looking all wrathful and such. The Pinsir that was on his field of vision reached the pond and tackled the Poliwrath back down. The two seemed to know each other as the Poliwrath didn't retaliate to the attack. Though when Laz made eye contact with the Poliwrath, shit was about to go down. "...Hell, these pokemon want to battle." Laz told Yuki as he stood up and behind a few rocks, his pokemon accompanying him. Picking the obvious choice, Laz sent out Freiya and Loki to the battle. The battle was going to commence once the Poliwrath moved. Freiya was currently fizzing out with electricity as Loki quickly climbed up a rock and proceeded to take aim. "I call dibs on the Poliwrath."

"Eh?" Yuki blinked at the sudden arrival of the two pokemon and then blinked again as Laz went off to battle the Poliwrath. His pokemon followed him leaving Yuki staring at a very angry Pinsir. "Well... this is interesting..." He had a sudden flash back to his testing battle and shuddered. The last thing he needed was to remember that hellish battle.
"Well, let's see if I can win with a type advantage rather than terrain advantage. Elsie, let's go. Let's start off with a nice Cotton Guard."
The cotton winged pokemon hopped off her trainer's head and fly in front of the bug type. It flapped its wings rapidly until there was a small barrier of cotton floating all around it.

-Battle Post- The Poliwrath geared up before suddenly spouting a Bubble Beam of all things at the Luxio, ignorant of the possible retaliation and riding the high of an evolution. Pinsier on the other hand was tauntingly moving his pincers around before rushing at the Swablu, planning to end this in one hit by using Guillotine so it can help the Poliwrath. -Battle Post- "Freiya, dodge the Bubble Beam and counter it with Volt Fang! Loki, use Harden then Bide!" Laz ordered his pokemon as the attack continued. Freiya managed to dodge the brunt of the attack as she leapt and landed through the water, aiming for Poliwraths left shoulder.

"Oh geez, get out of there Elsie. He might clamp you!" Yuki misread the Pinsir's intention, but it was still a good call. The Swablu remembered the Clamperl incident and rose up rapidly. The Guillotine attack missed as the bird rose up into the air.
"Dive down and use Peck!" The bird folded it's wings and dove beak first at the Pinsir's back. "Don't stick around after you get the hit!"
Yuki ran a finger over Eiji's pokeball and wondered if the Taillow would be needed for this battle.

-Battle Post- The Poliwrath's bubble beam went wide and completely missed the agile Luxio, if barely. The recoil from the attack and recent high of evolution was clouding the judgment of the Poliwrath as it shot it's fist towards the Luxio, unsure of what to use in its newly learned moves and in the rush of battle, couldn't think of using its more useful moves. The Poliwrath managed to clip the Luxio shoulder which caused the Volt Fang to hit the forearm instead of the intended shoulder. The Pinsir missed and covered itself with Revenge. As the Swablu swooped down to use Peck, the Pinsir let the connect hit and quickly raised its arms. Despite have the order to not linger, the Swablu may not leave unscathed by Revenge. -Battle Post- "Good enough Freiya, now continue on with Discharge!" The Luxio obediently followed and quickly released the electricity while it was still clinging to the forearm of the Poliwrath. The only way this move was going to miss was if the Poliwrath managed to swat it away before the attack actually came into effect.

The Revenge managed to clip Elsie and send her tumbling into the air. Swablu weren't exactly the heaviest pokemon so Elsie was rather easy to send flying.
"Che, too long." Yuki pulled out his second pokeball and tossed it into the air. "Eiji time for the assist." The pokeball released the small bird pokemon into the air. Eiji looked around for a moment before catching sight of the Pinsir. It chirped in anticipation for a battle.
"Aerial Ace!" Eiji flipped into the air before speeding at the Pinsir in a devastating aerial attack.
Elsie regained control and looked up to see Eiji attacking the Pinsir. Confused the bird flew back over to Yuki's side.

"Hmph, Freiya give it a good Thunder Fang and step back to prepare a Spark to finish it off!" Laz ordered Freiya as the Discharge managed to pull through, dazing the Poliwrath long enough which allowed the agile Luxio to leap back next to the Seedot and out of harm's way. -Battle Post- The Pinsir couldn't do anything as the surprise attack of the Taillow caught him off guard. Sending the bug type into the water, next to the dazed Poliwrath. The two were currently trying to snap out of it as several small Magikarps flailed around the pond, trying to get the two intruders out of their way. -Battle Post-

Eiji chirped in victory and circled around like a child on a sugar rush. Yuki chuckled slightly, but looked over at the two pokemon with a sense of confusion. "Do we... leave them or finish them off?" He tilted his head and pondered on whether or not to hit them with one more volley.
"Well, I really should be through." Yuki pointed at the two thrashing pokemon. "Combination time! Elsie, Dragon Pulse!"
The little bird charged up and fired off the Dragon Pulse at the two. "Eiji, Aerial Ace!" The tiny Taillow chirped before shooting forward like an arrow. The bird caught up to the Dragon Pulse and started to spiral around it.
The spiraling attack shot right towards the Poliwrath and the Pinsir.

"Freiya, follow that up with a Spark!" Laz ordered, with a probably too extravagant flourish of his hand as the two attacks connected. Really, the Spark was just for the explosion to make look all destructive and stuff. After the explosion, the two wild pokemon were sent flying away towards the forest. Physics be damned.
"Hmph. Looks like losing was too much of a Shock."
Laz swore then and there, he needed to get a pair of Shades.

Yuki was honestly surprised the combination worked. Pulling new moves out of nowhere rarely worked in real life. It was more of something you would see in a Tokusatsu show or an anime.
The spiraling attack (Yuki would need to think of an awesome name for that attack) hit the two pokemon and sent them into the lake. Then Laz sent an electric attack their way. Oddly enough an explosion ripped through the spot and sent the pokemon flying.
"What the heck?" Yuki choked out after Laz made a bad pun. "What is this, Power Rangers? I mean, what's next. Defeated pokemon growing giant and blasting the area with giant laser beams?"

"Yuki, I doubt that would----what the hell was that?"
Laz had to quickly turn around to look at what was making that sound only too see a large amount of smoke being ripped apart by what looked like Hyper Beams being shot from the inside. When all the smoke was cleared, there in the center stood at least five Gyaradoses looking for blood. God damnit it and they were looking at the two trainers.
"So...do we get our giant robots or do we run?"

"Well. Considering the lack of awesome transformation trinkets and armor like spandex. I say run." Yuki grinned weakly before quickly returning Eiji and taking off. The only time he slowed down was to grab Elsie had throw her under his arm.
The teen took off and hoped to god that just because Gyarados was a part flying type didn't mean it could fly after them. He wouldn't go after five Gyarados with his own party let alone with just Elsie and Eiji.
Still as he was running he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that no giant mecha of some sort didn't show up.

"What the hell!" Laz shouted as he fumbled for his five pokeballs and returned all of them at once before running side by side with Yuki. The thing was, the Gyaradoses were still after them and still spamming Hyper Beams like there was no tomorrow! Don't they get tired or something?
"My god, they're gaining on us!"
