DJ smiled as he carried his bag around the campus, looking around like a tourist with a camera (he just so happened to have a camera but was saving it for pictures of interesting pokemon, he was a professional photographer after all). He chuckled to himself, his Happiny sitting on his shoulder and enjoying the time out of her ball as she too held a small bag, feeling like a big help to her partner. Both of them were having fun exploring the campus and hoping to meet new people along the way. Hopefully they would become accustomed to the place quickly and fit right in so they could begin to become stronger and excel immediately.
DJ sighed and sat on one of the benches, watching the people swing around him and various humans and pokemon interacting in the park-like courtyard. Happiny plopped next to him with a soft sigh and a smile as the two took in their surroundings and thought about what was in store for them at the Pokemon Academy.

Sitting on a nearby bench, Meeka was reading a book, and apparently talking to her Pidgey, Tippi, who rested on the girl’s pink hair. “Okay, Tippi, I have come to the enlightment that is the pile of Tauros waste that is the bureaucratic system of the Hoenn region. Whoever knew that a book on politics would actually teach me something?”
Tippi the Pidgey hooted softly, basically questioning the girl’s choice on books. Meeka, slightly understanding the bird’s displeasure, put the book away. “Okay, let’s read something better. What about Curious Aipom, or the Hungry, Hungry Caterpie?”
Thinking about a delicious Caterpie dinner, Tippi pecked the book about the delicious bug.
“In the light of the moon a little Caterpie egg lay on a leaf…" Meeka began to read the story to Tippi, who began listening intently.

Happiny yawned softly as the two sat on the bench, they had been exploring the campus all day and trying to get a feel for where things were. Though unfortunately thanks to Happiny's short stature, DJ's bad directional skills and both their naivety, they didn't actually get much explored or established that day. He smiled and patted the small pink pokemon, letting her rest her eyes a bit as he looked around.
Nearby he heard the sound of a soft voice and spotted the girl telling a story to her Pidgey. He smiled warmly as he watched the pair, enjoying their cute demeanor. He slowly picked up his Happiny, cradling the sleepy pokemon like the baby it was and walked over towards the duo. "Excuse me." He asked the cute girl politely. "Mind if we join you?" He nodded towards his tiny pink creature cradled in his arms and to the seat next to her on the bench. "This is one of my favorite stories and I think Happiny would like to hear a nice nap story as well." He chuckled softly.

“Sure.” Meeka giggled, scooting over to the side to give DJ a spot to sit. “Oh, my name’s Dominique, but, most people call me Meeka, so, uh, yeah, feel free to call me that if you want. This is Tippi, my Pidgey.”
Tippi, on the other hand, didn’t seem so happy to meet other people, moving more to her trainer’s side, instead of the Happiny or DJ’s side, the Pidgey made itself confortable.
Clearing her throat, Meeka began re-reading the story about the Caterpie with an incessant hunger, who eats a menagerie of berries and food each day until it gets a stomachache and eats a leaf, feels better and evolves into a Metapod, and eventually a beautiful Butterfree.
“…then one day she nibbled a whole in the cocoon and pushed her way out, and she was a beautiful Butterfree. The end.” Meeka concluded the story, closing it and setting it down on her lap. DJ gave a friendly smile as he sat down with his tuckered out baby pokemon. "Thank you, nice to meet you Meeka. And you too Tippi." He chuckled softly as he eyed the small bird pokemon inching away from him. "My name's David but like you most people call me something else, DJ." He smiled warmly. "Feel free to call me whatever you're comfortable with. And this is... Happiny, my...uh... Happiny!" He chuckled, remembering that he had forgotten to give his pokemon a nickname as he often did. He glanced at the girl before listening to her read the rest of the story, words coming back to him with nostalgic feelings as he remembered when his mother used to read it for him. Happiny slowly fell asleep, napping through most of the story and barely stirring when it was through.
As he listened to the last part of the story, he smiled fondly, watching her close of the book. "Thank you, that story certainly brings back memories, and you read it very well." He gave a warm smirk. "How long have you been at the academy? It's our first official day, we're not even fully moved in yet." He nodded down to the small duffle bags that were the last of his luggage. "It's certainly been a fun first day though, seeing all new things and meeting fun people." He looked at her and grinned broadly.

“This is my first day too.” Meeka nodded, “I haven’t even gotten to my dorm yet, Tippi and I were on our way, but we borrowed some books from the library and we came here to read them, so once we finish relaxing, we might end up exploring the place to find the dorm. All my luggage is supposed to be there, and I hope they didn’t break anything when they lugged it there.”
Tippi eyed the trainer adjacent to Meeka before retreating back to Meeka’s side. “Also, pleasure to meet you, um, DJ. Your Happiny is really adorable. You and her are the first people I’ve met so far, besides the librarian, but I didn’t end up talking to him much.”

"Wow, what a coincidence." DJ chuckled as he listened to her story. "Guess it must be fate then, we can be new friends and explore things together." He smiled warmly as he eyed the Pidgey as well, smirking as it scooted away. "I suppose I should go to the library sometime and look around, I haven't been too many places besides the forest and the dorms yet, I got a bit lost." He laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his head.
"The pleasure's all mine Meeka." He smirked as soon as her name was mentioned, Happiny awoke from her nap as if by magic and made a cute pose. "Were you really sleeping or just playing?" DJ raised an eyebrow to his pink pokemon who just gave him an innocent look. "Your Pidgey looks quite lively as well. You guys are the first people we've met around here too, guess it's a fresh start all around. At least I can say it's a good one." He beamed at her, looking around the courtyard briefly. "It sure is beautiful around here, turning back to look at her. "Everything looks so pretty. I think we're going to like studying here." He smiled and Happiny nodded cutely.

Meeka smiled. “This place seems like a great learning environment. I really think I’m going to like it here.”
Tippi hooted at the sight of the Happiny waking up, followed by the compliment by DJ. Tippi, of course, wanted to prove just how lively she really was. Pecking at Meeka’s waist softly, Tippi hooted more and more, almost begging her trainer to challenge the also-new student.
“Tippi, what’s the matter, girl? Why are you so hyper?” Meeka tilted her head cutely, her hat dropping from her head towards her lap, revealing a pair of slightly-realistic looking metal horns. Anyone unaware of her situation would think the girl was growing horns, but in reality, they were just ornaments that had gotten stuck.
Tippi made her way towards the hat, giving the Happiny a glance, before turning to her trainer.
“Tippi… seems to be rather eager to get into her first battle so early.” Meeka said, smiling weakly. “I’m not sure if you, uh… if you’d want to.”

DJ smirked softly as Meeka responded and Tippi got rather uppity about something. He recognized the challenge vaguely and slowly made up his mind to take her up on it. He saw the hat drop an looked up at her exposed head spotting the horn-like thingies and blinking a bit. "Well that's something you don't see everyday." He grinned softly, eying her head. "Rather interesting, looks pretty cute." He giggled before bringing himself back to the challenge at hand. So he was right, the Pidgey did want to battle him. He wasn't exactly sure how the type matchup worked for Normal and Flying, if there was one at all but he didn't mind getting in some good practice.
"Alright then, that sounds nice, we can get in some training, Tippi can get her first battle done and we can get to know each other better." He nodded and stood up, bowing softly. "I'd be honored to spar with you. As long as it's okay with you." He gave another friendly smile. Happiny hopped off his lap as he stood and took a stance she thought looked ferocious but merely looked adorable to anybody watching. "Well then, I suppose it's ladies first." He grinned.

“Oh, these?” Meeka hid the ‘horns’ with her hands quickly. “They’re real.” She teased.
Once Tippi heard DJ accept the challenge, she flew off from Meeka’s hat, allowing the girl to put it back on.
“Well, if Tippi’s willing to battle, I don’t see why not.” Meeka stood up, setting the books next to her bag. “Good luck!”
Tippi flew in a circle before crying out her battle howl.
Thinking about the possible moves for Pidgey, Meeka cried the first move that came to her mind. “Tippi! Use Peck!”
At the sound of the command, Tippi dove towards the Happiny, her beak at ready.

DJ blinked and stared at the horns for a moment, confused by her teasing. "R-Really?" He chuckled nervously. "Just as long as you don't gore me if I lose." He smirked softly. "Thank you, good luck to you as well." He bowed his head softly as Happiny stretched for battle. "Happiny! Use Charm before it hits, then use Sweet Kiss!" He called out to his pokemon.
The Happiny nodded and struck a charming pose, making itself look cute before it was hit with the peck. She still rolled backwards a bit from the impact but it hurt a bit less than it would have otherwise. Next while the Pidgey was still in range, the Happiny jumped at it and tried to kiss it with the sweetness of an angel, hoping to confuse it. The opponent may have gotten in the first hit but they were still ready and eager to fight.

Tippi, slightly distracted by the Happiny’s cute Charm attack. But it didn’t stop her from attacking. Although, despite all the cuteness, if there was anything that Tippi hated the most besides the cold, was someone invading her personal space, especially her cheeks. There was no way she was going to let herself get kissed.
But… the inevitable happened anyway. The cute kiss couldn’t help but confuse the poor bird. Why was this little pink ball being so nice despite the fact that she had just attacked her earlier? No matter. She would have to ponder that later, right now, she couldn’t remember what she was going to do.
“Come on, Tippi! Quick Attack!” Meeka nodded, hoping the small Pidgey didn’t attack itself.
[dice=10] <Confusion Check! If Tippi rolls 1~5, self damage, if 6~10, then her attack works normally.>
If the confusion did not affect Tippi, then she would charge at the Happiny at full speed, barely making herself visible.
On the other hand, if it did, then she would do the only thing logical in her head: she would attack herself.

DJ watched as his plan to confuse the Pidgey didn't help him or Happiny much. The attack still went through and caught Happiny off guard, tossing her back again. The pink pokemon huffed and flexed its arms, ready to fight serious though now it seemed a bit more tired from taking the beating. "It's alright, hang in there Happiny, we can still do this!" He called out hopefully. "Use Charm again then Pound!" He shouted, not knowing too many moves for the baby pokemon.
The tough female nodded affirmatively, picking herself up and dusting herself off after the attack, striking the same charming pose it had before to try and minimize the damage it took, it couldn't keep taking hits like that much longer. Afterwards she climbed up onto a rock and lept into the air, swinging her small arms for all they were worth, aiming a Pound attack at the tiny bird. It may not have been very strong physically but she and her trainer were determined.

Tippi simply did not appreciate the sheer cuteness of the Happiny, sure once was adorable but, this time around, it didn’t affect her much. Not to mention she was too confused to understand what was going on.
Then, next thing she felt was a slap to the face. Taken by surprise, the Pidgey dropped a couple feet down to the ground before regaining her composure (for the most part) and regaining her flight. Still slightly confused, the hit didn’t seem to do much for her in terms of slapping her back to normalcy.
“Okay, Tii, let’s try a Gust attack this time around!” Meeka clapped her hands together.
[dice=10] <Confusion Check! If Tippi rolls 1~5, self damage, if 6~10, then her attack works normally.>
Had the Pidgey not attacked herself, she would began flapping her wings to start a gust of air to go towards the Happiny. DJ bit his thumb in thought as he saw the Pidgey once against successfully attacking Happiny, this time with a large gust of air that would surely injure Happiny greatly enough that it may not be wise to keep battling. Suddenly an idea struck the young student. "Happiny, use Copycat!" He shouted. "Blow yourself over the Gust, then hit it with another Pound!" He called out.
Happiny nodded as her eyes focused and an aura formed around her. She sucked in air until her cheeks puffed and she let out a gust of air similar to the one that the Pidgey let out at her, propelling the baby pink pokemon into the air, over the gust of wind the tiny bird had sent her way and using the momentum to pick up speed and aim an extra powerful Pound attack at Tippi in mid-air.

[dice=10] <Confusion Check I! If Tippi rolls 1~5, her confusion remains, if 6~10, then she snaps out of confusion.>
Once again hit by another smack in the face, Tippi began feeling a little dazed. Her confusion wasn’t much part of it, she was finally starting to feel the attacks piling up on her. It was her first battle, of course, so it wasn’t too expected of her to take too many attacks. Either two more attacks, or a really strong attack would be just about enough to make the bird drop to the ground.
“We can do this, Tippi. Use Quick Attack once again!” Meeka snapped her fingers, biting her lip softly.
[dice=10] <Confusion Check II! If Tippi rolls 1~5, self damage, if 6~10, then her attack works normally (Unless she snaps out of confusion).>
You guessed it, If the confusion did not affect Tippi, then she would perform another Quick Attack, charging hastily towards the Happiny at quick speeds.
Conversely, she would hurt herself in her confusion.

This was it, as Happiny landed DJ could tell the fatigue was beginning to set in on her and if she got hit again it could well be the end of the battle. The young photographer nodded, accepting this in stride and determined to end it with a fight. "Alright Happiny, give this last one all you've got!" He shouted. "Use Copycat again and match their Quick Attack with your own!"
Happiny nodded, the same aura filling her before she too took off with tremendous speed, her legs racing beneath her as both pokemon dashed towards each other for a final charge. If she managed to land this hit, she may be able to knock the Pidgey out, however if she got hit too hard in the process, she might faint anyway. It all came down to this as the two pokemon made contact and only time and fate could tell who would remain standing after this final skirmish.

[dice=10] <Confusion Check I! If Tippi rolls 1~5, her confusion remains, if 6~10, then she snaps out of confusion.> “Brace for the impact, Tippi!” Meeka gripped onto her skirt tightly, mostly in suspense. Her right hand shook slightly, also due to the thrill of the battle. Sure, it was a battle between two novice trainers, but all the same, Meeka ended up feeling so thrilled. Tippi felt the blow of the Quick Attack, although she didn’t expect it. The Copycat attack posed an inconvenience for the bird, especially when it came to attacks like these. Flapping her wings weakly, Tippi was hanging on by the skin of her teeth. Hooting just as weakly, the small Pidgey didn’t seem so disheartened by her current weak state, but rather, she still felt a bit pumped up, as the Happiny actually ended up giving her a heck of a fight. Meeka took a deep breath, “Tippi, here’s what I assume is your last attack. Finish up with a Tackle!” [dice=10] <Confusion Check II! DJ sighed and smiled softly as the tackle hit and Happing fell over, fainted after a good fight. "You fought well Happiny, good job, rest up." He smiled warmly as he held up the pokeball and returned the pink pokemon so she could get some rest in peace. He turned towards Meeka and grinned broadly. "That was fun, plus it was an exciting fight." He chuckled softly. "You fought well too Tippi." He nodded to the tiny bird.
"Thanks for giving me my first fight and being the first person I met around here, I'm glad it was you." He smiled, stepping towards her. "You seem like a great person, I hope we'll have lots of classes together." He giggled a bit as he stood in front of her, extending a hand for a job well done.

Gripping Tippi’s Poke Ball, she recalled her Pidgey back. “You did well, Tippi. Good job, girl.”
Smiling warmly at DJ, Meeka looked a bit confused. “So, um, yeah. Now what?”

"Thanks, I rather enjoyed myself too, it was really great and exciting, especially for a first match." he grinned as she shook his hand. He watched as she retired the Pidgey for a well-deserved break, leaving the two surprisingly alone now, though he wondered why that mattered at all. He gave a warm smirk to her in return and shrugged. "Want to go do something? It's a big island, we could go explore it together. That way we learn together and can get used to the place faster and no one gets lost." He laughed a little.

Meeka’s stomach growled softly. She had just realized that she hadn’t eaten any breakfast, and all the excitement from the battle seemed to have drained a part of her mostly missing energy reserves.
“I… wouldn’t mind checking the place out. I’d think it’s best to learn my surrounding since I’ll be here quite some time.” Meeka nodded, her hat shaking softly. Once again her stomach growled. “Er- maybe we could start by finding a place to get food… Ehehe…” [[Words: 79]] [[Currently: Kind Meeka]] [[Tags: No one, yet]] [[Listening to: “Newbies” (ft. "Good." He smiled brightly and nodded to their agreement to explore. He chuckled as her hat bounced and stomach growled, finding the scene rather cute. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, food first." He smirked, he was feeling a bit hungry as well, he had a small breakfast because of his excitement to go exploring today.
"There has to be some kind of food around here somewhere, I mean they have to keep all the students fed." He pondered aloud. "Probably inside in one of the larger areas of the building." He theorized, thinking he might vaguely know the direction of where some source of food might be. "I think it might be this way..." He chuckled, beginning to lead her off.

The placement of small food shops around the courtyard certainly made a big convenience for the starving Meeka. Meeka’s hunger essentially made her crave anything and everything, so for now, Meeka would just randomly find a food stand and satisfy her incessant craving for food.
“So, um, what are you hungry for?” Meeka asked, walking alongside DJ. “I don’t really mind—I’ll eat anything at this point—but is there something you specifically crave. I think they have just about a stand for everything. Except, thank goodness, Tepig eggs. I’m allergic to those.”

DJ thought for a moment, spying the small food shops all over the place as he walked with Meeka. "... huh, surprised I didn't notice this before on my way in." He chuckled softly and looked around, knowing the girl was very hungry so he had best hurry up and pick something. "Good to know, I'd hate to have them in something and be surprised by an allergy." He chucklled softly and continued searching.
"Let's see.... I'm not sure." He looked around and saw many stands for various fruits and pastries, finally spying something substantial for them to eat. "How about some Miltank burgers?" He smiled warmly, looking at the stand for the meat product. "Ladies first." He bowed softly and let him in front of her in line for the food before they could order.

Meeka nodded and placed her order, getting two burgers for both DJ and herself. Paying the lady with what little Pocket Change she had left, she signaled at DJ to go to the nearest bench with her as she handed him his juicy-looking burger.
Meeka, as she stared greedily at her burger, tried to begin yet another conversation with DJ. “Tell me a bit about yourself, who are you, and what makes you tick?” Meeka took a quick bite of her burger. “You’re my first friend here, so I’d like to get to know you more.” [[Words: 96]] [[Currently: Kind Meeka]] [[Tags: No one, yet.]] [[Listening to: Blowin’ Air – Meeka’s Ceiling Fan]] [[Notes:~~~]]

DJ blinked as Meeka ordered for them both, chuckling softly. He didn't mind it so much as he wasn't expecting it, though the chivalrous part of him felt bad for her having to pay for both. "Thanks, you didn't have to do that." He smiled warmly, taking the delicious-looking sandwich from her. He sat down with her on the bench, looking over his sandwich a little.
"That's great, I'd like to know more about you too Meeka." He giggled, taking a bite of his sandwich before swallowing and trying to answer her question. "Well I'm DJ, at least I think I am. I'm a pokemon photographer with a few years traveling experience, mostly here to learn more about exploration and training to become a good trainer and photographer. I grew up in a pretty small town, just me and my sister and mother. My sister's a pokemon trainer now, sort of why I want to become one as well. How about you?" He smiled at her before taking another bite of his burger.

“I’m what you call the not-favorite child of my family.” Meeka said nonchalantly. “My sister’s a really good trainer, and well, I guess I’m not, even though my parents jumped the gun before I could even capture my first Pokemon.”
Taking another bite of her burger, Meeka swallowed and continued as if nothing. Her backstory didn’t seem to bother her much. “It’s not like I resent my sister or I hate her. We got along pretty well, and she taught me a thing or two about Pokemon Battles… although my parents think I need the extra instruction and sent me over here.”
Another bite, followed by a shrug. “Either way, it doesn’t matter. As much as this place resembles a separate region, I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. I mean, it technically means that my adventure started anyway.”
Finishing her burger, Meeka burped softly, blushing softly at the accidental display of non-lady mannerisms. “E-Excuse me…”

DJ nodded softly and smiled. "Sounds like we have some things in common." he chuckled a bit. "My sister became the best trainer in the history of our little town and now she's almost like a psuedo-gym leader there. She kinda bullied me when I was little but she too taught me a lot about pokemon and I feel pretty okay about her anyway. We get along fine now, more like a friendly rivalry." He smirked. "She's the only family I have left so we talk a lot and have sort of depended each other a lot in the past few years." He took another large bite out of his burger hungrily.
"I'm sure you'll be a great trainer with a little practice and experience, after all you already have your first victory over me." He beamed happily. "You're probably right, this place is like the start of a journey, we get to catch all kinds of pokemon while learning. It's like a completely different type of adventure, starting with a clean slate, you know?" He smiled warmly. He grinned a bit at her burp, finding her blush cute. "It's alright, don't worry about it, you can relax, you're among friends here." He giggled softly. He watched her blush a bit more before taking another bite of his burger.

Meeka looked down at her only Poke Ball at the moment and smiled softly. “Yeah. Well, despite the cliché lines of ‘I’m not my sibling, I don’t want to be my sibling!’ that tends to follow backstories like mine, I actually do want to grow up to be like my sister. Not a carbon copy, but I just want to be strong, but caring. I’ve seen her battle, and she’s awesome… and I’ve seen her at the dinner table, feeding her Pokemon like a big family—much to our mother’s chagrin—and that’s just something I want.
