Arcen turned to stare openly at the Heracross. He didn't want to attack it outright. But it appeared that it was not going to simply start attacking. "Listen," he turned to it, unsure of whether or not the pokemon could actually understand. But it should at least be able to take the urgent tone in his voice. "I'm training to become one of the best. Someone who will never be forced to back down from a fight or be beaten in seconds. Battle me, and join my team." He pulled Alacer's pokeball out and released her. She was by his side in an instant, ready to defend or pursue should the Heracross make a sudden move. She clicked to the Heracross, "The winner will decide who goes where. Fight me, and I can prove to you that we are worth joining."

- Mod Post - "Tell your trainer that if he loses, you, the Zubat, would become my follower."The Heracross placed up his condition as he settled into a fighting stance. Waiting for the opponent to make its first move as he continuously Leered at the Zubat, hopefully dropping the opponents defense by a stage if it did feel something. - Mod Post -

Alacer paused, her blood freezing. Be forced to join this filthy bug? Away from Arcen. No. Never. It wasn't worth the risk. The stupid Heracross could keep its freedom. She refused to be parted from Arcen. She backed away from the dark-shelled bug, and flew to Arcen's shoulder. She shook her head frantically, clinging to his arm. "What the-?" Arcen muttered. He stared at the Zubat, who motioned desperately towards the Heracross, pointing to herself with a spiky wing tip, miming following, and then pointing at the Heracross again. "You mean if we lose, you have to follow the Heracross?" She chittered anxiously, nodding her head up and down. She turned briefly to glare at the Heracross.
Such a cruel law! To force her master to choose between running the risk of losing her, or loosing the Heracross that he'd searched for so... so... She couldn't bear the word. Passionately. All these thoughts and feelings roiled through her mind in just a few milliseconds. And then, without hesitating a single heartbeat, Arcen nodded without even sparing his Zubat a second glance. "Very well, Heracross. If you win, Alacer shall serve you. But if I win, you will become part of our team. I believe we understand each other."
Frustration and sadness collided and trembled within her, spilling over the boundaries of her tiny heart and flooding her lungs, drowning her. Master... no... I thought... I thought I mattered to you... For a few seconds, she didn't move. And then, she turned to face the Heracross as all of the emotion crashed against an iron wall of reality. As it rebounded, it turned to red waters of rage. Rage and desperation. Fine! she thought to herself If he doesn't realize how important I am to his team... Then I'll show him! I'll show him that if it weren't for me, he'd be nothing! He'd have nothing! Without even meaning to, Alacer's furious intensity focused into a Mean Look. "Good thinking on the Mean Look. Now, Supersonic" said Arcen, voice devoid of emotion. Alacer shot her Supersonic straight at the Heracross's face, driving all that she could into confusing the bug.

- Mod Post - "Contract Completed."The Heracross stated as he knelt down, his fists touching the ground as he weathered through the Mean Look. As if it had any thoughts of fleeing. Dashing to the left and dodging the Supersonic. Dodging it, the Heracross went back to his original stance and continuously used Leer against the Zubat, wanting to lower her defenses twice as to deal maximum damage. - Mod Post -

"No good," muttered Arcen, as the Heracross dodged. Alacer flared up indignantly, thinking that he was talking to her. Then he continued on, "We need to be attacking, before it's too late. Alacer, use Haze while you're far away and then move in with Acrobatics! Watch yourself..." his brief word of warning was enough to push the Zubat on; she shot a dark cloud around them, resetting the stats back to normal, and then she flew straight in towards the Heracross with a painful flying attack.

- Mod Post - The Heracross hummed in distaste as the Zubat flew towards him. The Heracross had to snort at the Haze that covered the field, once more resetting everyones stats to normal. His horn glowing with a dark energy, the Heracross lowered himself before launching himself forward, meeting the Zubats acrobatics with his Night Slash, the horn colliding with whatever part the Zubat had used to hit him with. - Mod Post -

Alacer's wing slammed against the Heracross, the damage from Acrobatics doubled due to the fact that she wasn't holding any items. She grimaced with pain and anger as the Night Slash collided into her wing, but she wheeled away quickly, fluttering her wings quickly, forcing the pain to the back of her mind. "Follow up with Wing Attack!" It was a bit more powerful than Acrobatics, but he was worried about that wing. If she used the other one though, the damage should keep her flight balanced. Arcen felt sweat begin to come to his forehead. What if he'd been wrong? No... surely she couldn't lose. She had a great advantage here. They would win if he kept using it.

- Mod Post - The Heracross once more made a stance, sliding his feet apart and bringing his fists up front. Unafraid of the zooming Zubat up front. It narrowed its eyes as it saw the Wing Attack coming into effect. He breathed in deep, his fist glowing with an awesome power, and with a shout of his name, the Heracross used Brick Break, countering the Wing Attack with an attack of his once more. This Heracross knew how to fight, and it was thinking that the fight would be in a bag if this Trainer didn't get his act together. - Mod Post -

Alacer's other wing became slightly damaged by the Brick Break, but it seemed to help her even out her flight. Flying with more balance now that both wings were slightly hindered rather than just one overpowering the other, she wheeled away from the Heracross. A twinge of doubt was beginning to cross her mind. Was Master Arcen really a good master? He had already led her to a crushing defeat before. Would he do the same now? And even if he didn't, did she really want to be the sole champion of someone who would gamble away his own pokemon like this?
Arcen gritted his teeth, and half-whispered, "Confuse Ray, and then Air Cutter." Now that her flight was balanced once again, he didn't really want to get to close. Not yet. Not now. Her sharp ears caught his quiet order, and she took up a position above the Heracross and slightly behind it before a dark purple beam of energy shot out in a wide angle towards it, quickly followed by razor sharp gusts of wind.

- Mod Post - "Heracross." (Pathetic.) The Heracross huffed as he smashed the ground with a Mega Horn. The ground erupting into an array of dirt, grass, rocks and a crap load more dirt. The Confuse Ray and Air Cutter smashing into it. The stuff only barely grazing the mighty Heracross who had pity in his eyes at the opponent. "Hera, Heracross Cross Recro." (You, I don't need someone like you.) It said at the Zubat. Turning his back on the weak and relatively pathetic opponent, the Heracross stalked away. - Mod Post -

"Don't you walk away from me, you... you... you great hulking snob!" Alacer snarled angrily. She struggled to regain her balance, baring her teeth. "Alacer, stop! Enough is enough. We've lost." She snapped at her master, "No! Fool! I can still fight!" Arcen stared at her with disbelief. He'd never seen his Zubat, usually so compliant and obedient, like this. His voice becoming calm but firm, he said, holding out her pokeball, "Return, Alacer." She turned with an angry hiss, but was quickly drawn away with a red beam of light.
He called after the Heracross, "It appears that we need more work than I'd initially thought. When we've gotten stronger, I'll be back. And if you show yourself again, things will be different. I promise." A harsh glint came to Arcen's eyes as he dropped his every-day disguise to reveal the cold self that he was. He didn't expect to see the Heracross again, ever. But things would be different next time in the odd chance that he ever did.
