He was finally here. It had always been his dream to become a trainer and now here he was about to take a placement exam at one of the most well-respected Academies in the world. Bill could barely get the door open as his hand was shaking with anticipation.
“Oh God. I've never battled with a real pokemon before...What's it going to be like?” he wondered. While he had watched Pokemon battles broadcast on television at home and read books about techniques and theories on battling he had never held a pokeball in his hand before.
“What if the pokemon doesn't respect me?” he thought. Bill was beginning to doubt that he had made the wrong choice coming here. Maybe it would have been best to stay at the store in Goldenrod. That was comfortable and safe. He knew exactly what to expect at the store but here he was bound to look like an idiot. Bill wasn't sure if he wanted that or not.
Bill took a deep breath and imagined himself in the place of a real Pokemon Trainer. The roar of the crowd and his steadfast companions battling alongside him. Yes. This was exactly what he wanted. If he turned back now he'd regret it. He took one final deep breath and entered the room.
“I'm Bill Silvers and I'm here for exam,” he said as he took a few steps into the room. It was now or never. There was no time to be timid, even if he was a wreck inside. He wasn't going to show it.

Bill was surprised at how well he managed to do in the test. True he was shaky and nervous but he managed to do much better than he expected. He looked at the pokeballs. This would be an important decision. The pokemon would be his companion for a long time. Perhaps it would be best to let fate decide his pokemon companion. He closed his eyes and reached out for a pokeball blindly. He took the pokeball in his hand. Without a word or a sound he released the pokemon from it's pokeball. A flash of light escaped from the orb and began to take shape. A brightly colored bird appeared once the light had died down.
“Archen,” the pokemon said as it tilted it's head to the left. It seemed to be studying Bill. Bill hadn't seen a pokemon like this before but he figured that he'd learn about them soon enough.
“Alright come on Archen. Thank you for your time,” he said to the test administrator and headed off to his dorm assignment.
