"I'm a terrible boyfriend" Tyler moaned, his face sliding down the glass of a jewellery shop window with an audible squeaking sound. He had been looking all the fine, expensive items that could make all of a girl's jewel-related dreams come true for hours now, despite the fact in likelyhood that would never happen for a long while in his case. Pulling out his wallet, it spluttered and a few imaginary Mothim fluttered out as it was opened, revealing the vast void of nothingness. In short, Tyler was flat broke. Yeah, that did make finding something for the special day very difficult indeed.
"She's already got an Pokemon egg from Thomas.... with a Stunky or something.... and he's not even her boyfriend, just a close friend and.... what I have I got? Bupkiss. Nada. I'm meant to be there for her and I haven't got anything...." Ty sighed, turning away from the display with a frown and some of his hair overshadowing his dissappointed expression. He felt terrible, but he couldn't think of any way to rectify it.... even trying to get some regradging, but paying job would take time, and time he didn't have.... otherwise it wouldn't even be a birthday present anymore, and he'd look even worse being late. Better late than not at all, he supposed....

Kaera's trip into the city was mostly to pick up a couple of text books that she hadn't gotten a hold of before the bookstore at her school sold out. Not wanting to wait a few days and get behind in homework, she decided that the extra ten dollars wasn't that much of a problem.
Going into the city meant leaving Shrub behind in her room. She didn't mind though since while she was out she was considering buying Shrub a ribbon or something she could wear around. The Sun Stone she had was still hidden and Kaera wanted to surprise Shrub with both the option to evolve and something cute to wear when she did. The Comet Shard she had gotten when she went home might be worth something here. They were dirt cheap at home but here she noticed some rare stones being sold at high prices.
As she passed one of the stores that sold such things- looking to see if she could get an approximate idea of how much a comet shard went for- she saw Ty leaning against a window looking miserable. Having not seen him in a few months she decided she might as well reintroduce herself and ask how her best friend Coralie was doing.
She patted him on the shoulder and said "Hey Ty, hows it going?" while slipping the shard into her pocket. No sense holding it out where anyone could see it and steal it. "Judging from your smile I guess Cor broke up with you?" She really hoped that wasn't the case since that would not only be horrible for both of them, but it would make her work to get them together a waste of time.

Ty turned around, looking flabberghasted. Kaera? But she looked so.... different! Like.... to the point he almost didn't recognise her, and almost did a double take!
"Kae? That you? Oh my god, it's been so long! How have you been!" Ty asked, not particularly against giving his old "friend" (well, it depended on the day really) a hug, after not seeing her for quite some time. "Coralie and Mel and everyone missed you so much! Me too, I mean.... it's not the same without you around" he smiled, bucking up for the time in the last minutes when she saw her again. At her next question, he looked down and frowned.
"Ah, well, no but..... s-she might. We're going out, I mean, like officially since you left, but..... it's her birthday, and.... I didn't know until like today, so I'm not prepared and I've got nothing, really. Thomas, one of her other friends, gave her a Pokemon egg, and I don't think I can get another egg that fast and... well... I'm not exactly rolling in dough, either, so.... I'm going to look like I don't care about her at all, but I do! So bad...." Ty admitted, looking very worried and nervous, but feeling better now that he could share this with someone... he sure couldn't tell Coralie herself that he was unprepared for her big day! |

Ty gave Kaera the reaction almost everyone had given her so far. She stopped minding it at this point and accepted it as something that going to happen regardless of how hard she tried to act casual about her own return. She returned the surprised hug from Ty and said "Yeah its me. I'm back. I've been...okay." she said, trying not to hesitate as much as she had been when answering that question before. He was tired of dodging that question and mulling over it whenever she was alone. The thoughts about her late mother were just too painful.
She listened to Ty's story of finally going steady with Coralie-About damn time she thought- but heard the tragedy in his voice as he told about Thomas giving her a pokemon egg and how conversely Ty had not a penny to his name and, thus, couldn't provide his romantic interest with what he perceived as an adequate birthday present.
Kaera frowned a bit and slid her hands in her pockets as she thought about it. Doing so she felt the comet shard and had an idea. Smiling, she reached out and patted Ty on the shoulder and said "Well, how about we take a walk around and see what the city has to offer? I'm sure there's something in your price range around here that can rightly express your feelings for Cora."
