“Great work Raiden.” , Rose remarked, covering her ears at the same time. Her Elekid nodded in her direction and stopped making the ear splitting sound he had just emitted. The pair had been practicing for a while now, in a place where the Endless Plains met the Luscious Forest. “Let’s take a break then. You look tired.” Rose said. At her remark, Raiden gave a sigh of relief and sat down. He was tired; his trainer was tough, but he had taken a liking to her. She talked to him a lot more than most of the other trainers talked to their Pokémon and she treated him well. Rose walked towards a clump of Elephant grass and shaded her eyes with her palm and looked at the rest of the plain. She had never really seen so much flat land before. The plains stretched on an on, with different varieties of grass everywhere. In some areas, like the place she was standing, there were huge clumps of Elephant grass that extended up to her waist, making it difficult to walk, but these areas were interlaced with places bearing short green grass. It was a sunny day, and the sky had no clouds at all. There were a million Pokemon all around, most of them extremely busy. A flock of Taillows were busy trying to impress each other with their aerial movements. A Senret family had been watching Rose and her Elekid practice but had run away when Raiden used Screech. Rose walked back to the spot where her Elekid was sitting. “Ready to practice some more?” she asked.

"So Freeze, was it? I'm Laz, your new Trainer and this is Kostya,he's my starter and I'm sure you two would get along superb."
Laz said as he was squatting down to look at the little ball of fur. Kostya was floating next to him and ghosting around the two. Freeze, the Swinub he got from Adriel in exchange for his Cryogonal, was positively beaming at the attention. Nuzzling his trainers hand, Freeze gave a cute little sneeze to the side.
"C'mon, let's see if we can test out how good you are when it comes to fighting."
Laz smiled as he carried the little pokemon and placed it on his shoulder, adding a hand on it to keep him stable as he walked around the pretty tall grass. Laz was glad he preferred pants over shorts. The grass seemed like it was gonna eat his legs had they not been covered by some kind of fabric.

Rose asked Raiden to stop midway when she heard the sound of someone talking. Raiden stood patiently, waiting for his trainer’s orders, wondering why his trainer avoided people so much. Sound carried easily in the plains and there was a chance that the person may hear her. Rose wasn’t really in the mood for running into weird people. Most people expected one to talk to them and Rose didn’t want to waste her precious time talking to strangers. Rose frowned; the person seemed to be approaching the small clearing. “Just our luck. Like we needed anyone to disrupt our training.” Rose muttered under her breath.

"So Freeze, how long has it been since you were caught?"
Laz asked his newly obtained Swinub, the little tuft of fur being carried from his shoulders to his arms to get a better look. The Swinub just shrugged its little shoulders as Laz gave a small laugh, fighting usually brings out what they really do know anyway.
"If we find anything, you gonna be up for a battle?"
Laz asked once more at the brown ball of fur and/or hair. The pokemon exuberantly nodded, being happy to be given the chance to do something useful for once in its life. Wiggling towards the ground, the Swinub was finally released and began to scuttle forward, a dirt path visible through all the elephant grass and into the clearing.
"Another student?"

The last thing Rose expected to see running out of the tuft of Elephant grass was a Swinub. And yet there it was, charging at her like some possessed beast. Rose stared at it for a moment, completely bewildered. She was a bit torn between shooing the thing away or letting it approach her. Rosé liked small and cute Pokémon like Swinubs , but the Swinub was an ice Pokémon and she did not want to anger one and get attacked by a blizzard in full swing. She was nimble, but the chances of her dodging one of those attacks are zero. The little Swinub approached me and she backed away slowly. Raiden on the other hand was terribly excited. He looked at her, with huge eyes, wondering whether she would reprimand him for trying to befriend the Swinub. Raiden had a huge soft spot for little Pokémon, and Rose knew that waiting for her permission must be killing him. “Go ahead then.” She said, sighing. She knew she couldn’t really escape the current situation. If she did decide to walk away, the Swinub may followher, so she would have to meet the trainer anyway. She knew that Raiden would be broken hearted as well. He had hardly met any Pokemon yet. She decided that she would stay put and after exchanging a few short remarks with the trainer she’d tell him to go away and let her Elekid train.
Raiden was overjoyed on hearing her command. He approached the little hairy mass and began speaking quickly, stumbling over his words. Rose looked at him a bit surprised. She had never seen him like that. He was usually much more quiet and reserved, not to mention determined to impress her with battle skills. “Ele Elekid Elekid kid”, he called out, his body sparking. “Careful Raiden.” She said, a bit of a warning in her voice. She did not want her Pokemon hurting the Swinub. The minute she told him to be careful, Raiden backed away from the Swinub, maintaining a good distance and resuming his chatter.

"Don't worry about it. Freeze over here is part ground, Electricity won't hurt him."
Laz commented as he finally made his way through the bush, his Gengar crossing his arms and crossing his legs as he floated after his Trainer. Laz on the other hand, was taking a piece of grass that was clinging to his hair like gum. Flicking it off, Laz saw the litte Swinub run around the Elekid, trying to make friends with it and see who was better.
"Huh, looks like lil' Freeze wants a poke-battle."
Laz smiled as he saw the Swinub bristle his fur and challenge the Elekid with a smile, a friendly fight rather just to see how he could fair against an actual opponent. Clambering to his side of the field, Freeze looked at the Elekid with a smile, telling him that he was ready for the probable poke-fight.

"Don't worry about it. Freeze over here is part ground, Electricity won't hurt him."
Rose looked up to see a guy with bright red hair walking into the clearing. His Gengar hovered beside him, grinning away like Gengars do. The trainer was busy picking out pieces of grass that had got entangled in his hair, not really interested in conversation. Rose felt a bit relieved. Maybe she could get him to leave sooner than she had expected. She was about to tell him to leave as politely as she could when opened his mouth to speak. "Huh, looks like lil' Freeze wants a poke-battle." Rose looked down at the hairy mass that was busy running about my Elekid cheerfully, nudging him a bit. They seemed to be having a long conversation. Raiden definitely did not possess her skill of ending a conversation quickly. ‘A Pokémon battle huh?’ It was a great idea; the pair hadn’t really experienced battling another trainer yet. This would be a useful experience; if she lost, she could learn from it, but she was determined to win. The Swinub and his trainer did not waste any time. Freeze seemed to challenge Raiden before moving to the other side of the clearing and smiling at the Elekid. Raiden turned around to face his trainer, asking for permission to battle.
“Of course.” Rose said to her Elekid, nodding her head in reply. “Umm…looks like Raiden wants to battle too. Let's start?” She said, trailing off at the end. Most of her replies were short and to the point. She didn't like beating around the bush much. Rose looked over at the Swinub again wondering how experienced it was. She knew she had to be careful here. After all, A Swinub was partly ground type. She didn’t like the fact that they were entering a battle with a type disadvantage, but she knew that one could win even at a disadvantage. She moved back a bit and Raiden flexed his muscles; if he had any and his prongs vibrated. She looked back at the trainer on the other side of the field. He looked pretty relaxed. He didn’t talk much and he hadn’t introduced himself, but Rose didn’t mind. It wasn’t like she wanted to know it. She just wanted to get over with the battle.

'Elekid, a baby stage Electric Pokemon. Only redeeming quality on a general statement would be its Speed.'
Laz calculated in his mind, refraining from narrowing his brows to give out the hint that he was actually thinking about it. A few scenarios passed his mind, polishing them since he still had some time, given the fight hasn't even stared.
"Freeze, go ahead and use Mud Bomb."
Laz ordered his Swinub, the little mass of brown fur and hair or something nodding in affirmative. Gathering up some mud, the little Swinub then proceeded to aim at the Elekid which wasn't that much bigger than he. With a grunt and a cute squeak, the little Swinub launched the Mud Bomb directly at the Elekid, hoping to hit and impress his trainer.

Mud Bomb, if it hits, has a 3/10 chance to lower Accuracy by a stage.

“Dodge it Raiden.” Rose called out to her Elekid. The electric type Pokemon moved to the side, and the blob of mud conjured up by the Swinub flew past him harmlessly. Rose looked at the Swinub again, carefully. She remembered her mother telling her about those little creatures. They were definitely weak to grass and water type moves. Even fighting if she remembered correctly. Being partly ground electricity would not have any effect on it. “Hmmm.” Rose smirked a little. This was going to be good. “Raiden, use light screen! Follow that with screech.” Raiden nodded and carried out her orders well. He put his hands in front of him and a yellow box appeared around him. He then emitted a ear splitting shriek which was intended to reduce the Swinub’s defense.

Laz looked coldy as he saw the attack be deftly dodged while his little Swinub started getting chilly airs around him. The Swinub had tried to paw at the ground as he tried his best to not be affected by the Screech. Luckily enough, the field was still pretty huge and the distance was enough to at least not make it so ear splitting painful.
A rage and desire to win in his eyes, the Swinub looked at the Elekid with a battle-filled smile. Laz even put on a small grim smirk on his face.
"Ice Shard and Earthquake."
Laz ordered and his Swinub followed. As if it was always prepared, Freeze had shot out a bunch of sharp icicles at the Elekid, hopefully his aim was true. Then, with a battle-field glee in his step, the little Swinub jumped high into the air before crashing to the ground, sending tremors towards the Elekid and hopefully hurting it a lot.

“Raiden. Use Electroball!” Rose called out. There wasn’t enough time to dodge; however, this would prevent the mass of ice from reaching her Elekid. Raiden put his arms together and immediately, a million sparks travelled from all over his body to his arms. All of the energy finally took the shape of a golden yellow mass of electric power which was thrown with great force at the Swinub’s incoming Ice shard. The Earthquake attack however could not be evaded. The ground began to shake, but because of the distance between the Swinub and the Elekid, it was not as strong as it would have been at proximity. Once the tremors died down, Rose called out again. “Swift.” Raiden nodded and acted fast, letting loose of a million star shaped sparks which flew towards the Swinub.

"Ice Shard."
Laz ordered for his little Swinub as he saw the Elekid start blowing out stars. The amount of stars were certainly dazzling, for his inexperienced Swinub at least. Regardless, his Swinub tried once more to counter the attack.
A short and sharp inhale and Freeze had released a barrage of sharp icicles once more. Some of them colliding with the stars, others by passing them and heading for the Elekid while the others just missed. Not being able to counter all of them, Freeze had the unfortune chance to get hit by some. Even then, it refused to lose.
"Get closer and use Earthquake."
Laz ordered, seeing as the distance between them was the cause of a weakening attack. It probably placed Freeze in more danger but what's a little battle with out a risk? Besides, Laz had trust in his Swinub, moreso, still finding out what he can really do.

“Into the air Raiden!” Rose called out and just in time too. The swift attack hadn’t been extremely effective, only a few stars actually colliding with the Swinub. The young thing looked positively shaken by the attack, but soon composed himself and following his trainer’s orders moved a bit closer and used earthquake again. Raiden had followed Rose’s orders too and had jumped into the air. He couldn’t stay in the air forever, but by the time he touched the floor, most of the tremors had died out not causing a great amount of damage. “Raiden use quick attack!” Rose called out quickly. Raiden began to move towards the Swibnub, much faster than humanly possible. He was just a blur of movement, hardly seen at all, intending to tackle Freeze.

"Mud Bomb!"
Laz ordered with a pair of narrowed eyes. A few rough calculations going in his head at the moment. He knew his pokemon's defense was lowered due to the screech from the start of the battle and the fact that Quick Attack was an increased priority move.
A small click of his tongue came after the he gave the order. His Swinub frantically gathering what mud he had and just threw it at the incoming Elekid. Well, he would have thrown it had the Elekid actually been farther. As it stood, the Elekid was already next to Freeze when he used the move.
It was the outcome that Laz wanted.
This way, neither moves would miss, being this close to each other. Both of them may get hurt but Freeze, having used Mud Bomb, had a clear advantage at this point. A little risk.

Rose's eyes flared up a bit when she saw the little Swinub using Mud Bomb again. Reacting so fast was almost impossible; and this move couldn't be dodged either. Raiden was almost going to ram into Freeze. "Raiden! Use Low Kick instead!" Rose called out. Her Elekid changed his tactics quickly, even though he had been hit by the mud ball conjured up by the Swinub. He swung his leg back and kicked with all his might. There was no way this attack could miss. Due to the quick change, the Swinub shouldn't be able to do anything. The Elekid was extremely determined to win this.

"Good Job."
Laz commented on his Swinub as the little guy had managed to lessen the over all pain from the Low Kick thanks to the small explosion the Mud Bomb did when it connected. The Elekid, being weak to ground and Mud Bomb being a relatively strong move (only made stronger thanks to STAB), should be feeling the effects of such an attack.
And even with the lessened impact, Low Kick would still hurt the Swinub. Freeze was sent tumbling, the mud of him leaving a short trail as the weakened Swinub rolled to its feet, a fire in his eyes. He too was determined to win this.
"Use another Earthquake."
Laz ordered, the little Swinub struggling a bit but nonetheless following, and with the distance between the Elekid and Swinub, even if the pokemon tried jumping to dodge it again, the tremors wouldn't have stopped by the time Raiden touched the ground. With a squeak, the brown tuft of hair jumped once more and smashed towards the ground, closer to the Elekid to make sure it couldn't dodge the attack like last time. As the Swinub crashed to the ground, several cracks began forming as Earthquake took place.

Rose frowned, her sapphire blue eyes turning a shade darker as her eyebrows curved. She was annoyed with herself; she should have seen that move coming. Raiden had been hit with mud bomb easily and even though he, being the determined Pokémon that he was, had gone ahead and carried out her orders, he looked like he had gone through a lot. Being an electric type Pokémon and being hit right in the centre with a humungous hard packed mud ball isn’t a good thing. Rose could see it on his face; sure he did a good job hiding it, but she knew that it was going to be extremely difficult to win this thing. But she wasn’t giving in that easily. If they were going to lose, they were going to do so with dignity; maybe the end seemed distant now, but she knew that a Pokémon battle could change quickly, quicker than anyone could blink an eye. Just then, her opponent asked his Swinub to use another earthquake. ‘He’s coming down hard on us isn’t he?’ Rose thought. There was no dodging this attack. They were too close. If only they could counter it.
‘Counter it?!? That’s it!’ Rose looked at the Swinub grimly before calling out to Raiden. “Raiden, jump into the air-and use Thunder punch at the ground!” Rose called out. The purpose of using thunder punch was not to cause any damage; just reduce the effect of the earthquake. Raiden leaped into the air before coming down at the ground with his glowing fist. The impact it made was huge, and it reduced the effect of earthquake a bit. “Now Raiden. Screech and Low kick! Together!” Rose called out. She knew for one thing that Swinub’s were weak to fighting type moves. And screech would lower the Swinub’s already low defense. Rose watched her Elekid move across the field with increased speed, but she knew that those ground moves were taking a toll on him. If they weren’t able to injure the Swinub soon, they would not be able to end this battle satisfactorily.

"Freeze, counter it with Mud Slap!"
Laz hollered as he saw the Screech take its toll on his Swinub. The thing rendering his defense into a much weaker version. Regardles, his Swinub was out to win. He wasn't gonna let some Elekid that belonged to a socket beat him.
Being small enough, Freeze managed to collide his Mud Slap with the Low Kick, counteracting the blow but the Swinub itself doubted if it did even hurt the Elekid.
Not waiting for an order from his Trainer, this close to the enemy, pretty much any move would hit if it was fast enough. Freeze let go of whatever defense he had and used Ice Shard. Shoving ice chunks at the Elekid at point blank and taking it a step further with Take Down.
It was a recoil move but it should more or less be strong enough to at least get the Elekid down, or something. Well, that's what Freeze thought anyway.

“No way.” Rose said, a bit surprised when the Swinub used Mud Slap to counter Raiden’s Low Kick. It didn’t really affect Raiden much, because of the lack of time for Freeze to scrape up enough mud and put the attack together. Even though Freeze didn’t hear anything from his trainer, he continued to bombard Raiden with ice shard followed by Take down. The moves followed each other in quick succession, but Raiden reacted immediately. He was unable to attack Ice shard, which ended up doing a lot of damage, but Raiden was not going to give up just yet. “Just a little bit more.” Rose murmured, biting her lip a bit. As the Swinub came hurtling at Raiden, Raiden instinctively used swift. Sure it wasn’t something natural to do, but he realized that there was a reason that his trainer hadn’t asked him to use an electric move yet. If he was getting beat up, he was going to make sure that he would take the Swinub down with him too.

"Keep going."
Laz ordered, a feral glint in his eyes as the Swinub too inherited it. It was going through with reckless abandon as it scored through the Swift, feeling the adrenaline pumping up so much that it had forgotten the pain it had consumed.
The Swift cut marks on the Swinubs body as pieces of its fur were cut off but regardless, it kept going. It was going for a direct attack with a Mud-Slap. Gathering as much mud as it could, the Swinub launched forward, wanting to end this battle in at least a tie.

“No.” Rose mumbled, keeping an eye on the determined little ball of fur that was speeding towards Raiden. The little fur ball let loose of another huge mud ball, aimed at the Elekid’s tired body. “Raiden, try using another low kick!” Rose called out, however she was already sure that her Elekid wouldn’t be able to make it. Raiden did his best though, summing up the last reserves of his energy to kick at the Swinub. Soon after, Raiden was hit in the face by a hard packed ball of mud and dirt. It was too much for him, being a pure electric type Pokemon. He fell down onto the soft ground, clearly in a faint.

"Heh, good job Freeze. Good enough for a first fight."
Laz congratulated his Swinub as he saw both attacks connect, a double KO in this case. Looks like the battle ended in a draw. At least it wasn't a loss and Laz was just really collecting Intel for his newly acquired pokemon.
Returning Freeze to his pokeball, Laz gave the pinkette a small smile. "Thanks for the fight. If you ever need a training partner, just ask around for a guy named Ysal."
Laz said as he laughed a bit and pocketed Freeze's pokeball fondly. It was a good fight to say the least.

“Good job Raiden.” Rose whispered as she crouched down next to her pokemon and clicked open his Pokeball. The Elekid returned to his poke ball with a red flash of light, lighting up Rose’s face for a split second. Rose was pleased with the results. Sure Raiden hadn’t won, but he had done much better than she had thought he would, especially fighting against a part ground type. The Swinub had fainted on being hit too; a draw was much better than losing at least. “Thanks for the fight. If you ever need a training partner, just ask around for a guy named Ysal.” The red haired boy called out to her after returning his pokemon to his pokeball. “Sure thing.” Rose said shortly, standing up and nodding at him. “It was great meeting you.”, waving out to him before turning around and disappearing into a- clump of elephant grass that grew in the area, not bothering to give him her name.
