Heya Eros,
I'd like permission from the staff to have my own battle thread without the inclusion of a mod. I haven't decided what Pokemon I will be fighting, but as a baseline it will be of a type that is neither strong nor weak against the Grass type that is Shrub, my Gloom. I do not intend to catch this Pokemon nor do I intend to exploit an easy victory for the sake of evolution points. I have plenty of these 'points' saved up from before I took my break and I also have a Sun Stone already from earlier as well. The evolution will not happen at this time, but this thread will be a step leading to it. The battle is for some personal development for both Kaera and Shrub and I would like to not be restricted by the actions, rules, and time constraints of the staff.
Please talk this over with everyone so that there is no arguments over the decision.
Thank you

The above was also posted in the staff board where most of the site staff read it and gave me permission to do this modless battle thread.
The annoying blare of the alarm clock woke Kaera up from her sound sleep. Reaching out with her hand into darkness she attempted to slap the 'snooze' button, but all she ended up hitting was air. She sat up and looked around. The green glow from the LED lights was coming from across her room; she had forgotten that she moved her entire bedside table over to the far side so that she wouldn't be able to hit the snooze button thirty times.
Kicking her blankets off she rolled out of bed and stumbled through the dark room until she got to the digital clock and pressed the 'off' button for the alarm. Golden silence once more filled her rather empty dorm and she headed to the window by the door. Pulling the curtain the sky outside was just starting to glow with dawn's light but the branches and leaves of the tree house yellow dorms hid a good portion of it from her view. The illumination helped her navigate her own room, however, and didn't hurt her eyes as the bright electric lights would have.
After getting a shower and getting dressed she went back to the night stand and picked up the poke ball that was sitting on a small concave coaster by her alarm clock. Dropping it intentionally she closed her eyes against the flash of light that preceded the emergence of her starter Pokemon, once Oddish now Gloom, Shrub.
"Gloom!" she exclaimed excitedly, causing Kaera to wince and go "Shhhh!" Shrub got the hint and covered her mouth while looking apologetic. Kaera sighed and patted her flowery head while muttering "Its okay...just early." She walked over to the door and squinted at the calendar on it. It was Friday so she didn't have any classes until the afternoon. A test, actually. She'd been studying for it all week so she was pretty confident in her ability to pass it, but since she had a few hours to kill she might as well do some last minute studying.
She walked back to her bed and jumped onto it, bouncing Shrub off and onto the floor. Ignoring Shrub's agitated chatter with a small chuckle she rolled over and picked her Gloom up off the floor and set her back on the bed so she could go back to jumping on the springy mattress. Rolling to the other side of the bed she pulled a textbook out of the backpack that was leaning against the wall by the headboard of her bed. Rolling onto her back, she thumbed through the top right corner of the book until she found the folded corner that marked where she had last stopped reading it.
Cracking the book open she skimmed backwards to the beginning of the chapter then started to re-read it. She paid particular attention to the phrases she had highlighted during class and the notes she made in the margin on everything that the professor had emphasized on the basic functions of a poke ball. She didn't think she would be pursuing this subject matter next semester and didn't really feel compelled to learn anything more, but she also wanted an 'A' so she had to push on through the boring classes regardless if she liked them or not.
After about an hour she sighed and shut the book again after earmarking the same page. Sitting up she stretched and looked for Shrub, finding her jumping back and forth from the two unoccupied beds in the room.
"Hey Shrub, wanna get some sun?" she asked as she got up, sliding her hips around so that her feet were sticking out over the bed. She slid off the edge and her feet went right into her shoes. She tied the laces and stood up as Shrub made it to the door. Again, as every day, the Gloom jumped several times to try and open the door herself but was too short. Kaera decided to try and rig up a system so Shrub could handle the task by herself.
Kneeling down and lifting Shrub up Kaera helped her get the door open before they went outside. Shrub held onto Kaera's back as she climbed down the rope ladder to the ground. The sun was coming down in small streams through the leaves and a light breeze caused the lights to dance.
"Which way?" Kaera asked Shrub, both of whom were smiling. Shrub pointed and Kaera didn't need to speak Pokese to know that she meant the endless plains. The wide open grassland would be a haven for grass types like Shrub on a breezy sunny day like this. Kaera would enjoy the fresh air as well and so they set out, Kaera taking smaller steps and walking slower so Shrub could keep up on her own.
Emerging from the shade and into the sun, Kaera looked out over the bumpy horizon. Despite how people describe it, the endless plain wasn't so endless, and it wasn't flat. There were a plethora of hills and odd rocky outcroppings, one of which she had learned long ago to avoid at all costs due to a rather angry Dugtrio.
Kaera and Shrub headed towards the center of the plains but didn't stray into the danger zones they knew of. Instead they went for a small hill that made the plains seem endless since the edges were vanished over some higher rises and the only thing visible on the horizon was Mt Sunshine and the Hotrock Volcano.
The hill was Kaera's favorite spot to lay down and just stare at the sky and clouds. Shrub wandered about, never getting as much fun out of cloud gazing as Kaera did, but never wandering that far either. The shallow valley housed a small patch of bushes that Shrub enjoyed to explore whenever they came out this way, but it would only keep her occupied for a little bit, followed by a short nap and then she'd be bored and bug Kaera to go.
This time when Shrub went to check out the bushes, however, she found that the were no longer unoccupied. Surprised, the Gloom ran back up the hill to Kaera, hoping that she hadn't woken up the large cat. Unfortunately, she had, and when the Persian caught the whiff of an intruder on his recently acquired territory he wasn't happy at all.
Kaera felt Shrub tapping her arm and when she sat up to see what her Gloom was up to she heard a low growling attack that sent a shiver down her spine. Looking up at the top of the hill she saw the wild Persian leering at her with malicious intent glinting in its eyes.
The Persian observed the trainer and her Pokemon and had no joy in seeing them present. So far he had managed to deflect no less than a dozen would-be intruders onto his turf, trainers and Pokemon alike. Now this one crept to the very center of his domain and had the gall to look frightened. Well, she'd have something to be scared about soon enough.
Kaera got up and grabbed Shrub. Walking backwards slowly at first, Kaera watched the Persian for any sign of an attack. Fortunately, it didn't seem to be hostile. But once Kaera tried to pick up speed the Persian started to stalk after her. Naturally Kaera turned and began to run as fast as she could, but the Persian was faster, and darted past her, blocking her at the peak of the next hill. Kaera turned to run again, but once more faced the Persian. Its piercing glare was terrifying to her, but the actions of Shrub were what alarmed her the most.
Struggling out of Kaera's grip, Shrub landed on the ground and fired a Solar Beam at the Persian. Being so close because he was trying to play up the intimidation factor, Persian had no chance at dodging the surprise attack. Kaera was suprised as well because she hadn't noticed Shrub loading up the attack while her trainer was trying to escape the beast.
Pissed off and no longer playing, the Persian growled threateningly at both Shrub and Kaera and began to pace back and forth, waiting for an opening. The little blue Pokemon had a determined expression on its face though, and Kaera knew that this battle wouldn't be avoidable.
