The sun’s rays strayed in through the glass slowly, illuminating the interior of the compartment of the monorail. The monorail was steadily making its way towards the small island in the middle of the crystalline blue ocean, which at the moment was a deep green colour, with white foam churning over the crests of the waves. The warm rays encouraged the boy sleeping stiffly on one of the metal seats to wake up. Abel yawned loudly, his messy brown hair framing his perfect heart shaped face and falling into his emerald eyes. He was extremely groggy and hadn’t really slept properly, one of the reasons being that the metallic components of the monorail hadn’t allowed him to drift into a deep slumber and the cold seat kind of reminded him of the lavatory back at the orphanage, a place he hadn’t seen for six years. It prevented him from sitting comfortably too and in the end, he’d reluctantly removed his jacket and spread it over the seat which facilitated the process of falling asleep.
The journey came to an end soon enough, leaving Abel thoroughly relieved. He hated the travelling in trains and had tried his best to borrow a boat, but no one was really willing to go near the island due to the large number of rocks close to the cove which made it exceedingly difficult to navigate. After being firmly denied a million times, the only option left to him was to hop onto the monstrous monorail. He jumped off the train swiftly, lugging a huge black suitcase and a haversack on his back. A narrow path led up to the gates of the Academy. A million students milled about, joking and laughing. Apparently they all knew each other already because they seemed to get along really well. They stopped to look at Abel for a minute and then resumed their conversation. Walking closer to the group, he picked up snippets of their conversation, mostly centered around the infamous laboratory, the notorious teachers led by a crazy man and something about Pokémon.
Abel walked past them, making his way towards the white washed building which stood out amongst the green trees and undergrowth. It was about half a kilometer away from the gates and a few students walked out, with poke balls, some looking pleased with themselves while others kept groaning about how their test had been extremely tough. They waved at Abel and he grinned and waved back to acknowledge their presence before walking up the marble stairs that led into the lab. It looked strange, with a glistening floor that shone brilliantly and a few steel tables and chairs haphazardly drawn to one side. A few doors led to other rooms. Otherwise, it looked absolutely deserted and had a strange and unearthly air about it. Abel cleared his voice before calling out, “Anyone here?”
