Just one more day... she told herself. She looked out the window. The monorail sped along. Others were probably eagerly craning their necks to get a glimpse of the island, but not Rixie. Just one more day... she closed her eyes.
Subconsciously, she was running a slow, thorough check of her own mind. Running a systems check, as though her mind was simply the software of a highly advanced machine. Nervous? No. Her mind was calm, as calm as a quiet, cold pond which had not a single ripple to mar its surface. Afraid? No. Her heart beat steadily, as steadily as the water drips from an icicle that melts slowly as spring breaks over the land. Excited? She almost laughed. Not out of joy or anything of that sort, but out of grim amusement. When was the last time she had been excited?
She sighed, and opened her eyes. The glass was fogged up. She wiped it clean with one slender hand, then peered out of her window again. She blinked, a bit surprised, and shrugged. Pulling her few possessions together, she watched with indifference settling darkly into her green eyes as the train pulled into the station and grinded to a halt.
Just one more day... she walked silently, half following the map that was held loosely in one hand, half following nothing. Her mind was blank.
She reached the Lab, and as she reached out one hand to touch the cold metal door handle, something flickered inside of her chest, like a candle that was once blown out, rekindling itself from its own smoke. For the first time, she felt a hint of emotion at being here. For the first time, she realized what this meant.
I'm going to be a pokemon master... Someday, when I grow up... Maybe even one of the best. With this thought, her heart thudded again. Not hard enough to betray the indifferent look in her eyes or the blank look on her face, but hard enough to make her realize that this was a new beginning. Just one more day...
