'Okay Laz, this is it. Just behind these two overly large doors that probably costs a house each is The Laboratory. Don't freak out and stop chewing the damn bubble gum!'
Laz mused over the two exquisitely imposing doors that could and probably would decide his fate here in this academy. Taking out a roll of a bubble gum wrapper from his dark red coat and wrapping his now doesn't have to be remembered blue berry flavored bubblegum.
Taking a few steps forward, chills started to creep up Laz's back as he slowly reached out for the handles and stopped. "Trying only means something if it works in the end." Laz muttered under his breath the oath he lived by in the past two years and sat down on the corner next to the doors and popped up his Head Phones to his ears and played a random song.
"Imagine, Create, Dissolve, Entity, Disaster, Solution." Earning a glazed look in his eyes, Laz fell into beat with the music and his rampant imagination. " Realize, Destroy, Miracle, End. Sky, Ocean and Earth. All is You, None Am I."
And as the song approached an end, and his nerves calmed down, Laz stood up and placed his hands on the handles.
"Party Start."
And opened up the doors.

He spoke in an emotionless tone of voice before veering off to the side and entering a broad room to the right of the laboratory. The room literally held nothing but a dust-like structure that covered the ground. If one were to guess, they could easily infer that many other rookies had taken their battle exam in the same room. The instructor fiddled with his belt for a little while carefully balancing a plate of pokeballs in the other hand. After extracting a pokeball for himself; he held it out towards Lazarus and gestured him forwards. "Pick one, and we shall begin." He ordered calmly. "How you do on this exam determines which rank you'll fall into, so I suggest you take it seriously."[/ul]

A blinding white light shimmered through the cracks and assaulted Laz's black orbs for sight. Pressing on, Laz swung the doors open to find a...okay, Laz settled with 'Man' if only because of that stare.
Determination became the facial expression of Laz as he met the gaze of the person who was obviously, cause he had a key and a tray for poke balls, the man in charge. With the order of following the man was given, Laz just nodded his head in acceptance. What was there to do anyway? Scream like a guy who wears orange?
A few moments later and both of them found themselves in a very decor-less room that just really had dirt as a floor. Not much to go by if there was gonna be a fight.
"Pick one..."
Was all Laz heard from the man as he stepped forward and plucked a poke ball after going through some dice rolling in his head. Walking to the other side to make enough space for the battle that would no doubt commence, Laz put up enough Bravado just in case his nervousness might show up.

He murmured silently under his breath. The white-haired instructor brought a pair of classy, white gloves out of a pocket on his jacket and slipped them onto his hands. After preparing for the battle, he threw the red and white orb out onto the field and stared onwards motionlessly as an odd, light-green bird-looking Pokemon formed out of the pokeball and stared onwards as blandly as Yang did. If Lazarus were to let out his Pokemon, a large dragon-type with an ax jutting out from it's jaws would have let out a mighty roar upon entering the field. Xatu against Haxorus. It should be a fair fight... "You may make the first move." Yang told him silently. VS [/ul]

' A Xatu huh. Psychic if I can remember correctly. Might be able to fly also cause of those wings.'
Laz just stared impassively at the green bird like pokemon which reminded him of a shaman. Hoping that his chosen pokemon would have a chance, Laz closed his eyes for a moment and activated the pokeball.
"Here we go. Let's give it our best shot."
Dropping the pokeball at his side, Laz didn't waver with his stare at the opponent. As a sound resembling a 'thunk' echoed, a bizarre form of a bipedal animal came into view. Clunking around with a darkish yellow-green color covering its back and most of the front, black skin covering its torso, tail tip, and thighs and red talons and claws, the pokemon gave the image of Axew's fully evolved form, Haxorus.
Turning his head around, Laz came face to face, literally, at the Axe Face Pokemon. With a second of recognition, the Haxorus looked at the opponent, which was a Xatu, and gave out a bestial roar and leapt in front of Laz, baring its Axe in a provoking way.
"Alright, Haxorus. Use Taunt and follow up with Scary Face!"
Laz ordered as he back pedaled, thus giving the fight more space, and to procure his safety with a pokemon he's never used.

The instructor called over towards his Pokemon. Xatu stared over towards it's master in confusion. It wanted to vigorously attack the Haxorus, but it was against her will to do so. Rather than lashing out at the large dragon-type, the Xatu closed it's eyes and began to foresee an attack that would strike in a couple of turns. Meanwhile, Haxorus let out a loud roar out of frustration. Had Xatu kept going, it would have stumbled back out of fear- leaving it open for attack. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case in this fight. Lazarus would just have to try again.[/ul]

"Foresight...tch. Haxorus, don't bother evading attacks and brace for yourself!"
Laz swept his hand to accompany the order as the irritated Haxorus let out a bestial roar at the Scary Face failing. The two pokemon would have looked at each other with ferocity had the Xatu been capable of giving out facial expressions. Thinking of any other moves the Haxorus might know, Laz gave his own, yet doesn't really have an effect, Taunting glare at the man responsible for making his attack useless.
"Alright, Haxorus use Double Chop and follow up with an Assurance!"
The Haxorus, in Laz's opinion, was a battle-frenzied pokemon and would have preferred a relentless assault rather than an actual battle plan. But Laz was going to take this seriously and if Haxorus didn't want to obey, then Laz just had to play it to his favor.
Haxorus gave another roar as it streamlined its posture and charged for the Xatu, glinting both its claws to the light. Laz had to hold back a grimace at the sorely telegraphed timing of the move but thought about it if it mattered since the trainers had to shout out the moves in the first place.

Yang spoke above the Haxorus's loud footsteps. Xatu's eyes shimmered yellow for a few split seconds. As soon as Haxorus was going to ram another fist into the Xatu's chest, it disappeared out of site before appearing behind the dragon-type. Using it's speed as an advantage; Xatu begun to rapidly peck at the Haxoru's torso with it's beak. It looked to be a pathetic attack, but the damage it was dealing was the exact opposite. "Try harder." Yang murmured coldly. I guess Lazarus lucked out when it came to getting a battle instructor that wasn't a complete and total douche. Meanwhile, Haxorus was crying out in slight irritation. [/ul]

"Alright Haxorus. Good Job. Feel the pain and throw it back tenfold!"
Laz cheered Haxorus on, a feeble attempt to placate the now lashing pokemon.
"Haxorus, use Dragon Rage and get ready to counterattack with a Dragon Claw if it teleports again!"
Laz had to sneer inwardly at his own mistake. Getting too wrapped in the heat of battle would cloud ones judgment, and will more often than not cause the loss of victory. Trying to calm down as Laz could feel the grudge just wanting to be vented at this opponent and allow Haxorus to go on a rampage would be foolish, but the fact remained that Haxorus was losing and it seemed that Xatu was about to capable of thinking straight again from the Taunt earlier.
'Tch, this won't be a good fight. I have to make sure that Haxorus can get back to being calm...or as calm as a Haxorus can be.'
And just before Haxorus decided to attack with Dragon Rage
"Don't forget the Foresight and brace yourself!"
came the warning of Laz.

It cried out in anger as it lashed out at the Xatu. The bird Pokemon let out a light cry before falling back. "Xatu, attack back with Psychic." The instructor ordered calmly. In normal circumstances, he would have told the psychic type to use wish, or even power swap to turn the tide of battle. However, due to the taunt placed on it at the start of the battle, such tactics couldn't be used... The Xatu eventually brought itself back onto the ground. It focused firmly on the Haxorus, it's eyes glowing yellow. A green-like mist slowly enveloped the dragon-type and without warning, it started to float up into the air. All at once, Xatu's eyes widened and the dragon Pokemon was hurled backwards against the ground before getting released from the trance. The flying-type glared onwards, it's eyes blazing with odd, empty anger.[/ul]

The Haxorus Laz was commandeering was no doubt a sturdy one which was only accented by the blazing look of 'Do Or Die' that it gave Laz when it finally got back on it's two feet. It was a silent recognition that it can still go on despite the injuries it has sustained.
With a small smirk tugging at Laz lips, the Haxorus soon followed and returned a haughty axe smile at the angered Xatu.
"Haxorus. Sword Dance and flow towards Dragon Dance!"
'Alright, with this Attack goes up by 3 stages and speed by 1. He'll also be able to brace himself for the foresight that should be hitting him any time now.'
With a controlled growl, Haxorus obeyed the order and stood stock still and then opened his eyes before moving around and resembling a pack of swords before the outer color suddenly bled into red turning the Sword Dance and falling into Dragon Dance. With the dance over, Laz could feel the confidence that was oozing out of Haxorus as it slowly sauntered towards the Xatu. Taking carefully measured steps and inwardly braced itself for any attack.
And when the attack was finished, Haxorus was bound to explode with power at the next attack.
'Just bide your time...we'll get over this.'
Snapped out of his musings as Haxorus gave a roar of defiance and looked at Laz again. Giving notice that his hind leg was giving out and his energy was close to none. Laz grit his teeth, wondering if he should go for it.
'It's Do or Die Time.'
That was what those eyes said to Laz. Throwing away all hesitation, Laz threw his arm out and ordered the attack.
"Haxuros! It's Do Or Die Time! Use Guillotine!"
With a roar of agreement, the diminishing flames re-kindled and Haxuros ran straight for the Xatu, forsaking any kind of caution for itself.
"Come on!"

The instructor spoke as if Lazarus's orders didn't even phase him. Xatu was staring up at the Haxorus; somewhat intimidated by it's stat boosts. After hesitating for a few moments, a blazing green aura shrouded Haxorus once more and this time hurled the quick Pokemon into the ground with a harsh thud. Things weren't looking great for Lazarus or his rented Pokemon. As he issued his final order, Haxorus broke free of the annoying aura, the blades on the sides of it's face glowing. However, before it could even land a deadly hit on Xatu, the Pokemon instantly grabbed it's head in pain as a large rush of pink energy wavered out from the air. Although it had prepared itself, that didn't seem to be enough... With one last exasperated cry, the dragon-type fell to the ground. "Not bad."" Yang told him; nodding over towards Xatu and returning the Pokemon to it's pokeball. "Getting a dragon Pokemon like Haxorus is hard to control. You'll make a good trainer... If you can learn the certain advantages and disadvantages of battling." He spoke; dwelling to the back of the seemingly-empty room and pulling a black belt from the shelf, along with three pokeballs. "Your effort was nice, but alas, I'll have to keep you at black rank for now. Please don't be offended, and keep this belt with you at all times." Yang spoke; holding the belt out towards him. "You'll also be receiving your partner Pokemon from one of these three Pokemon here... Please choose wisely." He says, holding out three pokeballs. Choice One: Choice 2: Choice 3: Axew, Chickorita, or Gastly. [/ul]

"Axew...it's the first form of Haxuros isn't it..." Looking fondly at the three pokeballs, Laz was teetering on choosing Axew but the fact was, Dragon types were the hardest to train but a lot of them are sometimes too serious.
'And Haxuros definitely can't fly.' Looking at the other two pokeballs, with tags of Chikorita and Gastly, Laz knew the instant answer for that. Picking the right most pokeball, Laz picked up the one with a tag for Gastly.
Activating the pokeball, Laz dropped it on the ground to see a Gastly emerge, it's round and smog like body floating effortlessly and that happy, mischievous smile was just too endearing.
"Gastly, The Ghost and Poison Pokemon huh? Is it okay if I choose this one?"

the instructor commented. He nodded over towards the boy before placing the other two pokeballs back where he got them. "You may now leave wherever you want. Your dorm is in The Endless Plains. It's a great place for finding Pokemon, and though I'm sure you may not be pleased with the dorm's exterior, it's interior is very organized. You are a student, after all." Yang spoke; edging him out of the exam room. "Good luck, and no skipping classes." He told Lazarus before returning to his work. Now would probably be a good time to start your adventuring. After getting Gastly officially, Laz faced the instructor.
"Uhm Sir?" Laz edged a bit towards the embarrassed side at what he was gonna do.
"Thank you very much for giving the time."
Seriously, a 90 degree bow was not good for the stomach when you're hungry.
"And I'll try my best."
With that, Laz hooked Gastly's poke ball to the belt and walked out of the room, intending to head off to the plains...or go exploring for a bit.
"I'll think I'll name you Constantine or Cost for short."
