Dawn walked into the white room and sat down on one of the chairs placed in the room. She knew what was coming up, a test for her skills. She wasn't so worried about battling as she was about her first Pokemon.
Please be electric, please be electric, please be... She kept repeating this silently in her head hoping if she said it enough it would have to be true.

"Hello to you too, rookie." A rather cold voice came from another room. A boy dressed in all white with long, snow-colored hair and ice blue eyes stood staring at the girl without a trance of emotion showing on his face. Luckily, the yellow-haired girl had gotten Yang as her instructor. He was the slightly less critical one! ... But only slightly, so it wouldn't be wise to get one's hopes up. "Come with me." He spoke without warning as he walked through the laboratory and into an empty room with nothing but dirt paving the ground. It seemed to be some kind of battle arena, and Yang now held a plate of pokeballs in one hand along with a list of ranks Dawn could achieve in the other hand. "Pick one." He ordered; holding out one of the pokeballs while picking one of his own. After the rookie would have picked a Pokemon and thrown it out onto the field, they could start their battle. If all went as planned, the Pokemon chosen to battle would be: VS Yang's Pokemon would be Raticate, and Dawn's Pokemon would be Scyther.

Dawn followed the white haired boy in the room and admired it's grandeur. The Walls were still all white, but in the center of the room was a pokemon stadium. The white haired boy held out a group of pokeballs and Dawn selected one.
"This one, it's an electric type, I feel it." Dawn walked to her side of the field and threw the pokeball. "GO, POKEMON!!"
Dawn stared at it for a couple seconds flabbergasted. "S-S-Syther???!!" Not only was it not an electric type, it wasn't even cute. It was a bug type.
The white haired man sent out a Raticate, well, at least the Pokemon she was against was uglier, so she would have no problems hurting it.
"Alright, I'll start." Dawn new Raticate was a Normal type, so therefore it was weak to fighting.
"Scyther, use Vacuum Wave!!" The Scyther geared up and spun in a fast way. Using the only fighting move Scyther could learn on his own.

Yang held back a snicker at the rookie's disappointment. Poor trainer... At this point in time, he was almost hoping one of the two starters he could receive would be an electric type. Well, almost... They would get whatever they got, and be greatful that they even had a choice between three. Decent starter Pokemon weren't exactly easy to come by.
"Raticate, Assurance." The white-haired instructor called out to his Pokemon confidently.
Dawn's current Scyther dugs it's claws into the earth before releasing a large wave that hit Raticate dead on. The Pokemon let out a cry of pain before scurrying up and dashing after the green-colored Pokemon. Without a moment's hesitation, it lunged into the bug type with it's skull glowing with a sort of dark aura. The attack would have been less effective, however, after being hit Raticate's damage just increased.
Although the assurance did a decent amount of damage, it didn't quite do as much as vacuum wave had done.

Things were looking up for Dawn in this battle. Although it was true that assurance dealt more damage after Raticate took damage it was still weak in comparison to her attack which was super effective.
"Scyther, Agility, then use a Double Team!!" Dawn figured, if she had this match in the bag, why not have some fun with it.

The instructor nervously bit' his bottom lip. What was with this rookie? She certainly knew how to use her Pokemon... Then again, he was at a little bit' of a disadvantage. What, with his Raticate getting pummeled by Vacuum Wave and all.
What could he do at that point? The instructor watched soundlessly as the Scyther started to run around the arena before splitting up and making several different copies of itself. This wouldn't do... He wouldn't be able to land a hit if he couldn't even tell where the Scyther was.
"Raticate, use scary face." The instructor spoke calmly.
Eager to obey his current trainer's orders, the rat Pokemon eyed the Scyther and it's "clones" awkwardly. It stuck out it's teeth and stood up stiffly, it's eyes glowing crimson. It was probably one of the most disturbing things someone could ever see... In fact, the move itself seemed to work and canceled out the Scyther's double team. The bug type cut off it's clones and stood energetically at the side of the arena.
This was going to be harder than he thought... Now the damned bug had it's speed up higher than twice that of Raticate's. If he was going to think of something, it would have to be quick...

Dawn hadn't expected Scary Face. That certainly hindered her Double Team. Looked like playing around wasn't going to cut it anymore.
"Scyther, shake it off and attack with X-Scissor!!" X-Scissor, a move that was practically built for Scyther. It charged at the Raticate with blazing speeds and sliced at it with both claws forming an X shape.

The instructor anxiously bit' his bottom lip. He was about to ask Raticate to dodge the move, but realized soon after that it would have been next to impossible. The bug-type slung it's claws across the Raticate's torso, slashing across the rat's flesh and creating a fresh wound in the shape of an X across it's stomach. Before either instructor or Raticate knew it, Scyther was rushing in for another attack.
"Raticate, use quick attack to maneuver out of the way and then land a hit." Yang called out faintly. The Raticate was panting as it's blood oozed out from his fresh wound. The white-haired boy felt rather bad for it, but he couldn't just go easy on this trainer. Though, he had to admit, she wasn't half bad.
The Raticate dashed out of the way of the Scyther's second X-Scissor attack. Before it had time to react, Raticate hurled itself into the Scyther's back; knocking it away before it had a chance to land another move. Raticate didn't have much energy left, so this task wasn't an easy one.

Dawn was sure she had this one in the bag. Sure, the Raticate landed a quick attack on Scyther, but Quick Attack was a fast move for sweeping already weak enemies, it wasn't powerful. Dawn knew this match was over.
"Scyther, use Agility to get close to the Raticate and then finish it off with a Vacuum Wave!!" Dawn had to admit, Despite not being an electric type, Scyther had beem pretty partner for her.

Yang knew that the match was over as Scyther sent another large wave over towards Raticate; hurling it into the wall of the stadium with a large cry. Blood fell from it's wound and onto the field. Yang only clicked his tongue, slightly pleased with the blonde's performance. "Most impressive I've seen so far." He said with a smile as he returned the Raticate and put it's pokeball up on a shelf. He drew three more pokeballs from the shelf along with a silver bracelet and phone strap and approached the trainer with a forced smile. "I must say, I'm impressed." He told the girl in a dry, yet honest tone. He held out the three pokeballs along with the silver bracelet and phone strap. "You'll be placed into silver rankings. Please return your Scyther and hand it back to me. Then you may choose a starter for yourself from these three." He told her. Three pokeballs were held on a plate in Yang's arms. Only one could be chosen for Dawn's starter.

Dawn was a little surprised. Silver? She knew she had done well, but she didn't think she had deserved such a high rank. Then again she didn't have the greatest self-esteem. Yeah, this was good, she could start out high and get access to what she needed to become a gym leader.
Dawn looked a the three Pokemon, the choice was obvious. "PACHIRISU!!!" she almost screamed it at the instructor. She was so happy she almost grabbed the instructor and gave him a big hug. She only managed to hold herself back by falling instead of hugging.
Dawn lifted herself up and took the pokeball, the bracelet and the phone strap. She took out her phone and but the strap on it.
"Thank you so much" She said, bowing to the instructor. "It was a tough battle, maybe we can have another with our real pokemon." and with that Dawn ran out the door to begin her life at the academy.
