"The Journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet." DJ muttered to himself, these words racing through his head as he entered the laboratory for the first time. His mission was clear, his camera bag hanging off his hip with the rest of his travel supplies on his back. He wanted to become a great pokemon photographer and surpass his older sister as a great pokemon trainer in order to prove his growth as a person from the little boy all the girls would pick on back in his sleepy little hometown.
His head lowered a bit as the large sliding doors slid closed behind him with a click as he stepped into the largely empty white room, feeling as if he was the gates of purgatory. "The beginning of my journey is... beneath my feet." He nodded to himself as he stepped forward and knocked on the large locked doors in front of him, taking a seat in one of the chairs to his left as he waited for whoever was going to come there and test him.
It all started here.

Sheldon muttered to himself. Why was he being dragged away from his own thing just to test some student? He wasn't even being pulled away for anything Tech related. He was being pulled away to test a new studnt to give them a Rank and their starters. He really didn't care who the student started with, or where he went for his dorm. That didn't effect him at all. He just taught, and nothing more. Good for the kid wherever he went and picked.
Walking into the room, Sheldon dropped a Pokeball and a piece of paper into the boys hand and continued on. "My name is of no importance to you unless you're in Technology. I am only here to test your capabilites and then give you a Rank and a starter. You will use the Poliwrath that is in that ball to battle me. That piece of paper lists the five moves you are allowed to use in this match. The match is done when I say it is. You can go first" he explained, tossing out a Yanmega who looked ready to fight.
Poliwrath's Moveset: Bubblebeam, Hypnosis, DoubleSlap, DynamicPunch, Circle Throw
Yanmega's Moveset: AncientPower, Double Team, Bug Bite, Air Slash, Quick Attack

DJ nodded and bowed to the man in front of him as he stood up. "Yes sir, thank you." He looked over the ball and paper, committing them to memory. "I am in technology in a way." He chuckled and nodded to his camera bag. "All kinds of tech stuff helps me out with my photography and many enhancements in the digital part of that have been because of recent technological advancements. But you're not here to hear about that." He chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of his head. He tossed out the ball and saw the strong pokemon before him, smirking a bit.
"Oh cool, a Poliwrath." He smiled to himself, remembering taking a picture of one with an odd belt around it that thought it was a Machoke along his travels. His joy ebbed a bit as he saw the other man's pokemon, he wasn't exactly familiar with that species of pokemon but it looked like a bug and flying type based strictly on appearance. Remembering his encounter with the Machoke-delusional Poliwrath, he recalled that Poliwrath was a fighting type. His sister's words came back to him:
"Now, psychic is strong against Fighting, which is also weak to Flying." Jessica lectured him as a more experienced trainer.
"But why Flying? That doesn't even make any sense, karate people can jump high and break things much stronger than birds, they should be able to ground flyings easily..." The young DJ asked.
"Look, it doesn't matter, believe me, that's just how it is, these things aren't going to change based on what you think they should be, these are natural laws!" The more experienced trainer shouted.
Back in the present DJ nodded, deciding to avoid using brute strength and start off slow and cautious. "Alright Poliwrath! Use Bubblebeam!" He called out as the Tadpole pokemon let out a stream of bubbles towards the Yanmega, hoping to do some damage and also maybe slow it down in the process.

Sheldon listened to the boy, but gave him no thought. He spoke of Technology, but nothing was siting with him. Sheldon was just wanting this to be finished. So, as the boy talked, Shedlon pulled out his pocket-game-system. He let the boy chat away and let the boy get lost in his own thoughts. He kept playing as the boy finally made his move.
"Yanmega, Double Team, then Air Slash" Sheldon stated in a very easy and seemingly uncaring tone. Yanmega called out and soon a handful of copies of it showed up. Bubblebeam struck one of the many copies and the rest stayed up. Keeping his eyes on his gaming system, the Yanmega and his copies flew into the air. They all then disappeared and the real Yanmega's wings glowed bright silver. The wings fluttered forward than a large ball of energy fired out and went toward the Poliwrath. All the while, Sheldon only peeked up, keeping an eye on both his game and the match.

DJ's eyes narrowed as the opponent's pokemon copied itself and managed to dodge the attack. "Ugh, didn't remember what that move was called but I've seen it before and remembered I hate that trick..." He sighed, keeping a cool head and a keen eye on the battle. "Brace yourself Poliwrath!" The Air Slash hit the Poliwrath but it was able to keep going, his big size made it hard for it to dodge the attack but its bulk and muscle mass would make it more resistant to the attack it was already weak to.
"With an attack like that I've got to change tactics, I'll have to try getting in closer if it can use Flying-type attacks from a distance, that way I can use Poliwrath's strengths for close combat and increase the chance that it'll hit since it may not be able to move that well." He muttered to himself, out of earshot of the otherwise occupied instructor. "Alright Poliwrath, use Hypnosis, then move in and try to hit it with a DynamicPunch!"
The Poliwrath nodded, recognizing the strategy, aiming for accuracy and power over maneuverability. The swirl on his stomach twisted and turned, letting out a hypnotic suggestion to the Yanmega to attempt to lull it to sleep. Hopefully the Poliwrath would have a better chance attacking it if the bug was asleep. Whether or not that worked, the Poliwrath moved in close to the flying creature and punched at it with its full, concentrated might, giving its all to try and land a hit on the opposing creature.

Sheldon's attention was barely on the fight. He knew exactly what was going on, but he was far more interested in what he was doing. The game was more thrilling than any battle could be. He heard the students attacks ordered and yawned. Yanmega didn't seem to mind either. "Before you can get to sleep, use Quick attack to cut in close, then hit him with a Bug Bite" Sheldon ordered simply.
Yanmega quickly moved back and forth, moving to quickly for himself to even notice the Hypnosis. Swooping in close, his mouth opened and he went for a Bug Bite. This, however, was met with a heavy fist meeting his face. Yanmega flew back after being hit, now confused, but he didn't give up. He swooped in again, going to use Bug Bite again.

DJ was a bit disappointed that the Hypnosis missed but grinned broadly as the punch made contact and confused the enemy bug pokemon. "Nice hit Poliwrath! Keep it up!" He encouraged the test pokemon who seemed to nod in acknowledgement. It seemed that the other pokemon was eager to make this a close combat brawl as well with the speedy movement but when the first bite was interrupted by the successful attack, another one followed soon after. He wasn't sure the effectiveness of bug moves on Poliwrath but the pokemon seemed much less effected by it than the Air Slash, though repeatedly getting hit was beginning to take its toll on the pokemon despite it having a lot of fight left.
"It's alright Poliwrath, stay strong!" They now had the bug pokemon in close to them and DJ knew they had to take advantage of that before the Yanmega could use its evasiveness or ranged attacks again. "Alright Poliwrath, let it have it! Hit it with a Doubleslap, then a Circle Throw!" He shouted, he knew what doubleslap was as he had seen it used in pokemon battles since he was little but he didn't know what a Circle Throw looked like and was honestly looking forward to seeing how the Poliwrath would attack. All he needed to know was that it was a fighting move and it was something he could use to unleash on the bug while in close quarters.

Before the next attacks were made, Sheldon grabbed the Pokeball Yanmega was from. Returning it without any words, Sheldon looked back to his game. He continued playing it in silence for a few moments before looking up to the student. "Hm? You're still here? Oh, right....Rank and Starter" Sheldon stated, looking back to his game. He muttered some words to himself and kept playing for a moment. Finally saving it, he set it in his pocket. "Take this Yellow Band, that'll be your rank" he commented. Grabbing the Pokeball for the Poliwrath, he returned that Pokemon to the ball. He then pulled out three more and showed them to the boy. "Take one of these three and that will be your starter. After that, you're free to do whatever you want, withen reason" Sheldon stated, showing him the three balls. Choices:

DJ blinked as the battle ended abruptly and both pokemon were returned in front of his eyes. "Uh... okay, thanks." He blinked softly as he took the yellow band. He was glad to at least be in a house of average skill, at least he didn't mess up in any significant way. He looked over the three balls the man held out to him, examining the pokemon inside. He wasn't really sure which to choose at first but decided upon the pink one with the egg in the end, partly because it was cute and looked as if it had some potential. He took the ball and bowed softly. "Thank you...um... sir." He nodded, realizing he didn't even know his tester's name before he set the ball on his hip and was prepared to leave.
