Normally her Ninetales wouldn’t let her pet her but it seemed gradually, she was warming up to Sage. It was yet another sunny day making Sage sweat on her forehead. Why did she have her rank up test on such a hot and humid day? If it was at the beach, it would be fine since she could easily surf right after. But it wasn’t at the beach, it was at the Endless Plains—where she lived for a while when she was the lowest rank a Black Dormer. It was a bit disheartening really seeing how she ended up in the Black Dorms. She didn’t even get the chance to try. But she didn’t regret it at all, she got a determined starter pokemon, other great pokemon she caught, and even greater friends in the pokemon academy. It uplifted her spirits that she was able to rank up to the Yellow Dorms, a tree house was at least better than a farm house. No offense to her good friend Tommy who grew up in one back home.
She was full of anticipation and nervousness in the rank up exam hopefully she wouldn’t do horribly in the exam. She really didn’t want to go surfing at the beach with disappointment in her mind. She disliked the phrase, there’s always next time. She’d rather give it her all and impress whoever was going to test her today than trying again another day. She sighed knowing if that happened, she unfortunately would have to try again. It’s just she wanted to rank up and prove she could become strong enough to show it in what dorm she was in. She tried to think of positive thoughts and keep herself optimistic about the rank up exam rather than stay nervous about it. She repeated a mantra in her head, I can do this. She was determined to believe in herself and do the best she could. Now, it was only a matter of waiting for the one who was going to test her today. I can do this

"It's nice day, isn't it?"
A silver haired man asked his steed, a blue Metagross that had a hulking pair of arms weightlessly floating through the air. The duo kept taking their sweet time re-exploring the entire island.
They've already met a few students that were hopefuls, wanting to increase their prestige and popularity by trying to rank up. Tao totally kicked their faces with his boot.
If he met another student who just wanted to impress his and her friends because that was the 'in' thing to do, well, they'd automatically fail his test. Skill or no Skill.
"Tao, why not send out Kojiro or even Adamantium for the next one? These children are failing my expectations."
Skynet quipped, his hulking voice tired as he let himself and his Master down towards the ground, keeping a small amount of Psychic power to allow himself to levitate and keep going. Tao had respectfully leapt down, not wanting to disappoint his Metagross.
"Well, it says here that we have another student to test. I wonder where she is?"

Or too late? She could feel the cool brisk breeze flowing against her bare and making her silver-blond strands of hair swag with the wind. At least it wasn’t humid like a few minutes ago. She began tapping the log in nervousness and anticipation and partially in impatience. It was a habit she had to kick since it could be quite irritating to other around her. She heard a slight growl and then heard telepathically, “Could you stop that nonsense? You remind me of a lost pidgey just waiting to be slaughtered.” Sage huffed, “What’s up with and your pidgey analogies?” “Because they look so delicious?” Persephone said with an innocent grin that reminded Sage of herself, it was sort of disturbing seeing how that grin looked so similar to her own. Still, she didn't want to think about Persephone killing little pidgeys. Sage sighed finally stopping her constant tapping, “No really…” Persephone replied back with a stern tone of voice, “Fine. Show some backbone. It’s just a battle.” “Not just a battle girl. It’s a matter if I rank up or not.” Sage argued. Sage heard Persephone snort at her answer and heard what she said, “Then treat it like it’s just a battle.”
Sage was going to ask her how was she going to be able to do that when her heart was pumping crazily, even more so than before. She attempted to calm herself by taking deep slow breathes and trying to think mind over matter. It sort of hurt hearing Persephone most of time, being the one to guide her even though it seemed like she was always belittling her. Then she spotted a tall man with a Metagross walking across the fields. Was that the Headmaster? She had to get a better view. Persephone reported to her, “Another Alpha coming closer.” Sage said, “Right, I believe he’s the guy testing us.” There wasn’t any other teacher looking person around the plains right now, just some random trainers exploring. “Let’s go” as she and Persephone began walking toward the older man and his Metagross.
As she came closer, she recognized him as the Headmaster with her heart pumping faster and faster. She could her palms sweat even though it wasn’t that hot. She gulped it down and took a deep breath finally calming her nerves and greeted the Headmaster politely, “Hi sir. I’m here for the rank up exam today. I hope I didn’t keep you waiting. Thank you for taking the time to test me. And—“ She paused with eyes full of determination, “Ready to prove my worth as a trainer.” She was somewhat content she didn’t ramble or so she thought since she was nervous and probably likely to do so.

"Ah, Ms. Ryland. A sight for sore eyes indeed."
Tao said, of course this was all pleasantries. Most things just shrunk under his demeaning gaze wether he meant it or not. With that note given, Skynet gave a grunt of approval but made no move to engage the opponent in battle.
"It seems that my partner isn't in a condition to fight."
Tao stated as he saw Skynet just hulk over and get this glazed look in his eyes. With a shrug of his shoulders, the Headmaster leapt over his pokemon and used him as a chair, most likely for the duration of the fight as he took a pokeball from his pocket.
With a lob of his hand, the ball flew and cracked on the floor, releasing a ball of energy as an elegant female Blaziken appeared from it. The Blaziken politely bowed before her master and gave the opponent a feral and flirty grin, as if stating her superiority.
"Now now, Saya."
Tao said in a mirthful and chiding voice at his Blaziken who jumped to his side and began to hug him. "I'll be using Saya, my Blaziken. How about you?"

She needed a fast distraction to lessen her irritation and her wounded pride from that obvious insult. She spotted a random Pidgey flying behind the Headmaster and thought that pidgey was adorable but her thoughts strayed to her Ninetales’s analogies. Right. She imagined that innocent looking pidgey being slaughtered. Well, that didn’t help one bit. She knew she had to calm down especially that he was her Headmaster and didn’t want to provoke remember all those rumors about him. They might or might not be true but still, he was her elder and she at least had to respect that fact. She didn’t like or dislike her Headmaster, more like neutral on her opinion of him even though he just insulted her. He exuded a powerful presence and seemed to care for his students at least or he wouldn’t be here to test her right? Still, he reminded her of someone who could keep her in her wits and that was interesting in her eyes.
She already could feel the intensity of the Headmaster’s stare as if trying to intimidate her almost making her squirm but luckily she didn’t. She remembered her words from long ago, I think I'm a natural-born leader. I know how to bow down to authority if it's authority that I respect. She respected him. She maybe could handle him verbally but of course, a very bad idea to go against him. But a pokemon battle, she had no clue. As she replied back, “It’s nice to see you too Headmaster” she then bit her lip in nervousness. She knew she may have sounded confident but inside, she was shaking in much anxiousness and very much worried.
Did the Metagross not think she was worthy to battle with her? That would be troubling for her confidence in thinking that. Come on Sage! You came here confident and determined. Don’t lose all that because of one little thing that just happened. Right. Stop thinking that way. She took a deep breath as she relaxed herself slowly. It shouldn’t matter if he changed his pokemon. She watched the Headmaster who suddenly, used his Metagross as a sort of chair and felt a hint of jealously over the fact he could do that. Lucky. She sighed knowing she had to get these outside thoughts out of her mind and concentrate on the impending battle at hand. Feeling the breeze of the wind gave her comfort as she thought about how free she feels going to the calming deep blue ocean waters.
Persephone please just calm down. Don’t get pissed off. Her Headmaster released a female looking Blaziken who appeared with such gracefulness that Sage was almost entranced by the pokemon. Seeing that feral grin from the Blaziken made Sage uncomfortable knowing Persephone wouldn’t be happy with that action. Sage asked her telepathically, “Uh Per you alright?” Persephone growled and replied irritatedly, “Fine. I’m just fine…” “You sure?” “Who knows? Just, just concentrate on the battle.” Knowing Persephone was definitely not fine with it but she really wanted to concentrate solely on the battle, she just had to reply, “Alright.” “Now let’s do this!”
Sage smiled at Ninetales’s telepathic battle cry and looked at her Headmaster and answered, “I’m using Persephone, my Ninetales.” Sage gave eyes of determination and focus as she began thinking of advantages and disadvantages and anything that gave to her mind. Anything. She saw Persephone get into a battle ready stance and who looked ready for her commands. Sage smiled saying, “Let’s do this Per!” and ordered her Ninetales, “Nasty Plot!” as Persephone howled loudly beginning the battle sharply raising up her special attack power. After that, Sage called out, “Follow up with Extrasensory!” as her Ninetales’s glowed brightly and an unseeable burst of energy zoomed straight for the Blaziken. Sage hoped it would hit and make the Blaziken flinch at least. All she could do right now was hope and cross her fingers that it would. Come on Persephone, we can do this! She also hoped she and Persephone could survive this battle considering this was her Headmaster’s pokemon. Just stay calm and a clear mind.
If I roll 1, then Blaziken will flinch. [dice=10]

"Saya, make it painful."
Tao ordered with a smile. His Blaziken could not be happier. That order meant that she was allowed to let loose and just fight to her hearts content. Or at least, until she had to stop due to reasons that may or may not be said in the next thirty minutes.
She saw the Ninetails move with admirable speed, sending a Blast of Extrasensory right at her. She smirked. The Ninetails was faster than most of the ones she'd seen before. The Extrasensory was already sailing towards her and she knew she wouldn't have enough to get out of the way.
Curling her hand to a fist, Saya used Brick Break on the rocky ground. The explosion of debris had created a wave of dirt that managed to counter the Extrasensory, saving her from the possibly devastating effects.
When her body began to glow, Saya had made it obvious that she used Agility, purposefully giving herself some sort of disadvantage in order to make this fight a bit more fun. She raised her arms as well, using Bulk Up and raising her stats with it. She readied her legs and her torso, a cocky pose of saying 'c'mon' at the Ninetails.

That was nice of him wasn’t it? Hell no. Damn. Now what? Unfortunately, Nintales’s blast of Extrasensory was blocked and neutralized the Headmaster’s Blaziken’s Brick Break attack as she curled her hand into a fist and punched hard onto the rocky surface making the debris from the attack being able to counter the Extrasensory attack. Damn it! That was her first chance at attacking the Blaziken who was weak to psychic but there were also other chances. She took a glance at her Ninetales and could see that she was frustrated but trying her best to contain her feelings of frustration. Sage knew Persephone was also hoping it would hit but disappointedly, it didn’t. It was time for Sage to console Persephone, not the other way around.
“Per calm down.” “I am…calm.” Persephone retorted with slight growl in her voice. “No you’re not. “Then what do you think we should do…?” Persephone asked curiously with a sharpness in her voice. “Survive, that’s all we can do. We have to.” Sage replied realizing the difference in her Ninetales and her Headmaster’s Blaziken. She didn’t hear a reply from Persephone after that but she guessed she realized the difference in their strength as well. They needed more training. She watched as the Blaziken increased her speed, defense, and her attack power. That was a bad sign right now. The Blaziken had a more of an advantage now. What to do now? All she could do now was wing it and figure out tactics on the go. If Saya was going to increase her stats, why not have Persephone increase her stats as well even if it was the same move? Sage ordered, “Nasty Plot!” as Persephone howled once again sharply increasing her special attack stats. They needed as much help as they can get to survive this battle. Now Ninetales did not have the move Agility but Sage and Persephone knew the importance of staying light on your feet in creating momentum and making it less likely to be caught in an attack but damn, agility wasn’t what she was expecting. Maybe it would lessen the impact? She didn’t know. Maybe training her pokemon in their stamina and cardio at the beach would help? Her Ninetales was already being light on her feet going different directions around the Blaziken just waiting for Sage to order an attack. A fire against fire pokemon match was not a good match up right now. Sage just had to go with the flow as she ordered, “yin-yang half moon!” as Persephone used fire blast emitting a large fire blast while running making a fire blast go in a half circle and immediately after the half circle finished using Extrasensory as her Ninetales ran the other direction creating two layers of an attack zooming toward the Blaziken. Yin was represented by the Extrasensory attack that seemed subtle and a bit unseeable while Fire Blast was strong and clearly showing full of power, the yang. Sage communicated to Persephone telepathically, “Get ready to use Confuse Ray, if those attacks misses. Never mind, just use it anyway, hit or miss! Keep on moving! Don’t let her get out of your sight!” as her Ninetales’s eyes began to glow a darker shade of red and kept herself mobile. We need to survive this.

"Offensive, eh?"
Tao smiled as he saw his Blaziken whoop for joy at the attacks. There was a lot of fire, and that extrasensory again and there was just so many things she could hurt it with. Saya was totally getting too into this.
She readied herself, watched the flames and the psychic attacks gathered towards her. In the blink of an eye, her body suddenly exploded into flames. A sudden wailing of flames had consumed the Extrasensory and the opposing Fire Blast.
Saya had used her own Fire Blast, the intesity of the heat waves breaking through and allowing her to scorch the very earth she was on. The earth even turning into glasses as the attack.
A bright smile on her face to know that her opponent this time could at least keep up. Skynet is too busy to give her the time of day, Kojiro is busy being the over-seer when Skynet tires and the other pokemon that Tao has are pretty much not her type.
Once more, she saw the Confuse Ray nearing her. It was so telegraphed, well for her at least. She ducked down, the speed of her fists banging on the glass breaking it as the Confuse Ray missed her by an inch. Staying in that feral position, Saya used Focus Energy, raising up her critical hit ratio before eyeing the Ninetails.
She grinned.
Dashing out, the glass breaking as Saya sped up, the Blaziken quickly neared the Ninetails, her fist glowing with an awesome power as she readied a Sky Uppercut. She sent signals on how she was gonna use it, just to at least let the fight be a bit more enjoyable rather than one sided.

That combination did not work out as planned thought inside she knew it was too likely that the Blaziken would overpower. She could hear Persephone growling louder at her failed attack and frustration. Sage watched the Blaziken use her own Fire Blast against her and immediately ordered Persephone, “Quick Attack!†As a last telepathic order after that, “Let yourself get hit by the Fire Blast!†as she watched her Ninetales disappear and reappear in the flames of the Fire Blast activating her Flash Fire ability and not being affected by the attack and boosting her fire attack power as well. Ninetales then skidded away from the glassed earth and kept her gaze on the Blaziken. Unfortunately, the Confuse Ray missed by a small amount and not affecting the female Blaziken at all. Alright Nasty Plot boosted her special attack power by at least two stages and a Flash Fire boost for her fire type attacks. That was good so far. But the Blaziken was still so strong. Nasty plot was the only move she could rely on so far. The other stat inducers were null especially that Blaziken was faster than before. Again? Damn. Focus Energy? So increasing the likey hood of critical hit huh? Fine. Sage told her Ninetales, “Nasty plot!†as Persephone once again howled sharply boosting her special attack power.
Then the Blaziken came close to Ninetales faster than she expected. Damn. Her fists began to glow light blue and could see her fists aim upward at Persephone. Shoot! She needed to lessen the impact somehow. Sage ordered immediately, “Inferno!†as when the Blaziken was about to hit her Ninetales, Persephone sent out a spiraling stream of light blue fire with rings of dark blue fire from the orb hopefully hitting the Blaziken who was so close to her Ninetales. It might not do much but as long as the Blaziken gets hit, she’ll be burned no matter what. Still, Persephone was hit on her right side since she moved to attack. The Inferno did it’s job of lessening the impact from the attack. Sage crossed her fingers that hopefully the Inferno at least touched the Blaziken. But Persephone was rocked. Sage was worried. Persephone…I hope you’re alright. She was on the ground. She heard her Ninetales, “I can still fight!†as she watched Persephone get right back up. She continued sharply but with a heavy breath, “It surprised me.†Sage breathed a sigh of relief. It must have been a critical hit but Inferno might have helped at least somewhat or not? But she didn’t fully believe that Persephone was just surprised.
Sage wished her Ninetales had a more expanded move pool but she didn’t. She just had to work with the moves she had now. They needed to avoid the Blaziken’s legs and arms as much as possible. The only attack that the Blaziken was weak to was Extrasensory. With Nasty plot boosted up three times, it would be much stronger—if it hits. Should she use it again? The rest were fire attacks, dark attacks, and a single psychic move. But still, her fire type special attacks were boosted up by Nasty Plot and Flash fire. Was that enough? Alright, Persephone gained some distance so she was mostly away from the Blaziken right now. But she needed Persephone to hit Blaziken somehow. She had to risk it. Persephone asked, “Now what?†Sage replied, “Chance it. Quick Extrasensory Attack.†They needed to get closer no matter how risky the attempt would be. Persephone ran at a fast speed toward the Blaziken and getting closer and closer, changed it up to Extrasensory as Persephone’s eyes glowed brightly sending the attack zooming closer and closer toward the Ninetales, while still using quick attack to hasten her speed. Be careful Persephone. At least one attack to hopefully damage the Blaziken. Sage was sort of peeved she had to keep on using the extrasensory attack but Saya was weak against Psychic moves. She needed to use it.

"Saya, get serious."
Tao ordered with a smile on his face. At least this competitor was showing more promise than the other candidates he had to deal with. With the orders given, Saya had no choice but to comply and get serious. This was a good step at least, she didn't need to hold back in fear of hurting the enemy too much.
Her attack had managed to be strong enough to blow the Inferno away, and deal damage but the licks of the flame ebbed at her fist. It wasn't enough to hurt her that much but stinging pain and all. Given she was also a fire type, Inferno wouldn't be able to burn her.
When Saya saw the incoming attack, her whole body suddenly tensed and she saw her body react to it. Her leg was already raised and Blaze Kicked the Extrasensory away, towards the air as it disappeared into nothing. Her eyes were slightly glazed. Even then, her body was moving on her own as her body extended itself, her fist covered with poison as she used Poison Jab at the incoming Ninetails.
Soon after though, her body started to glow as the image of a might bird flared behind her, Brave Bird in the process as she went on a head on collision against the Ninetails.

Wasn’t the Blaziken already going all out? Sage thought so but she was mistaken. Sage gulped down her nervousness seeing that she had to somehow keep up with her Headmaster’s Blaziken. What could she do now? Sage sighed seeing that the Inferno had burned the Blaziken but of course, it didn’t do much to affect since she was a fire-type pokemon as well. She just had reacted so she could somehow lessen the effects of the attack. And it worked—somewhat. Damn. Another Extrasensory attack and the Blaziken just kicked it away like it was nothing at all. It just disappeared. Sage widened her eyes seeing the Blaziken’s fist being covered purple substance and about to aim to attack. Was that poison jab? It might get Persephone poisoned. Sage yelled, “Dodge!” as Persephone leaped away from the poison jab. Sage was sweating in the adrenaline of the pokemon battle. She had to get in the offensive but the Blaziken was just too strong. Shit. She saw the image of a giant bird behind the Blaziken and it was obvious was attack that was. Brave Bird. Luca had used that attack to win a battle but this time, the tables were turned.
Sage might soon lose this battle sooner than she had thought. What to do? It seemed hopeless. But there might be a way to lessen the impact somehow. She watched as the brave bird attack came closer and closer and about to hit and yelled out, “Fire Blast against it!” as Persephone blew out a tornado of flames right back at the Blaziken. It had neutralized most of the impact but still was hit once again on the face as Persephone was pushed back. Sage said, “Confuse Ray!” as Persephone eyes glowed looking straight at the Blaziken and ready to confuse the pokemon—hopefully. Come on Persephone you can do it. But if Blaziken uses a few more of those Brave Bird attacks, I need to end the battle even if Persephone wanted to fight some more.

"Saya..."
Tao began but the Blaziken had become drunk with the lust for battle as it began to heave heavily, seemingly enjoying this kind of battle. When the Blaziken saw the Confuse Ray going towards her, it didn't notice it end as she was too drunk into fighting, only seeing that moving dot as her opponent.
Once more, her body glowed for another Brave Bird attack, regardless of what was gonna happen, she wanted to maim her opponent, to drink her blood and bathe in it as a sign of victory and her superiority.
"Saya."
Tao commanded, an eerie semblance of Darkness in his voice as the move cancelled out and Saya was struck by fear, unable to move from her position as she just stopped.
"Return, Saya."
Tao said, this time without that over-bearing malice that could make grown men shit their pants in fear. The Blaziken sunk her head as her shoulders slumped. Disgracefully returning from the fight and back to her Master's side and behind Skynet as she cowered in fear.
"Congratulations, Ms. Ryland. You have passed the criteria for Silver Rank."
Tao said, a sickeningly sweet smile on his face as he traversed the distance between them in what seemed like mere seconds. Revealing a Silver Belt and Silver Choker from his person, the Head Master gave it to the student.
"This is your proof that you have passed the exam."
Tao said as he placed a small extra prize on the girls hand. An Ultra Ball, it seemed to be.
"I hope that this lesson helps you in the future."
Tao stated as he turned around and sent a glaring look at his Blaziken. Oh, Saya was gonna get some kind of punishment from him. It was something he'd very much enjoy. The Blaziken tried to shrink into a smaller figure but failed as her Master was too close.
Guess you'll see them when you try out for Diamond.

Sage was too caught up in Persephone getting hurt when Confuse Ray didn’t affect the Blaziken and it seemed like she was going in for the kill when Sage saw the Blaziken’s body glow once more. She was very worried and scared knowing the next Brave Bird would really affect Persephone especially that she was already hurt. It really seemed that the Blaziken really wanted to kill her Ninetales. That was the thing that scared Sage the most knowing a pokemon might kill Persephone if ordered to do so. The Blaziken was too strong. Sage was about to surrender and end the battle before her Ninetales received any more damage but then she heard her Headmaster calling his Blaziken’s name. Was it over? Sage shivered hearing Headmaster Tao’s eerily tone of voice that spooked her more than the last time she saw him. It even made the Blaziken cower in fear in Sage’s opinion.
The Blaziken was finally called back and Sage breathed a sigh of relief as she got out Persephone’s pokeball returning her. She was definitely going to give Persephone a potion after this ordeal was over. Her Headmaster’s voice once again, made her shiver though she was trying to control it this time. She didn’t want to show weakness. But her Headmaster’s voice showed her fear. She had to find a way to work past that. She heard him say that she made it to the Silver Rank. Wait what? She actually did it? He then gave her a Silver Belt and a Silver Choker. They both looked pretty. They were nicer looking more so than just the Yellow Belt. She gratefully said thanks to Headmaster Tao and took the two items. He then said this exam; lesson hopefully helps her in the future. Did he mean for the Diamond Rank exam? If so, she had a lot of work cut out for her as she began walking back to the Yellow Dorms to heal her Ninetales and then pack her things.
