I ran this by Tyler a while ago, and he shot it down. However, I'm curious as to what other members might think of this idea I randomly came up with, so I decided to post it again, this time to the general public...with a few revisions to avoid any confusion like when I talked to Tyler about it
First off, I think we're taking the term "happiness" a bit too literally here. It's not so much the fact that they are happy (as in, the emotion itself), as it is them forming a deep bond with their trainer. I mean...Pichu is constantly depicted as being extremely cheerful and energetic, so, if it was based on the emotion alone, then they'd evolve into Pikachu the moment they're born. So, with that in mind, I had an idea that can reflect the Happiness system from the game, without forcing them to do nothing but battle.
When a person wants to build up exp for a happiness evolution Pokemon, then they make a thread and tab it with some sort of tag like in the title...like...[Happy], or something. In this thread, they can do anything with the Pokemon in question, whether it's battling, wandering aimlessly, or running around flipping girls' skirts. So long as it shows that they're bonding with their Pokemon. Then, like any other thread when someone is wanting to evolve a Pokemon, it'll be subject to review by an Evo Mod. If the thread shows that they're believably developing a bond, then it'll pass. And, if something seems off, then the Mod can call bullshit and tell them to try again.
Now, to avoid any potential confusion, here's what I'm thinking as far as giving out exp. First of all, it can't be just a one-post solo thread. I figure, the thread, unless it's a battle, must reach, at the very least, the second page before it's considered eligible for being submitted for exp. Also, only one point will be given out per thread...unless, of course, it was a win against a trainer. So, basically, while battling will probably be the quickest and easiest option, it won't be the only option, since, like in the games themselves, there are more ways then just battling to increase happiness. Plus, these [Happy] threads will also give us chances for character development, which is never a bad thing
Either way, lemme know what you guys think, and if you have any doubts/questions/comments, feel free to post them here.
Oh, and let's please keep flaming/unnecessary snarkiness to a minimum, please.

So a Pichu will still need 5 points to evolve, just five HAPPY points as opposed to five EVO points?

When you say two pages, does that mean like a two page thread or on WORD it's 2 pages? [HAPPY] threads, by how I read what you wrote, seem to imply solo threads, replying back to yourself, which is the only part that really gets me scratching my head.

@ Eros: More or less. It'll still be evo points, it's just, like I said, that these will be ways to gain them other than fighting...mainly for Pokemon like Pichu or Igglybuff who aren't exactly ideal fighters. But in any case, yes, the amount of evo needed to evolve will still be the same.
@ Tom: What I mean is that the thread itself has to reach the second page. And, basically, the way I'm seeing it, either another member's character or a mod will have to be somehow involved...this is mainly to prevent people from abusing the system by doing nothing but posting by themselves and half-assing it just for the sake of getting free evo.

I voted that I have my doubts. But I have my doubts about the entire evolution process adopted by this site and I have not been quiet about it. This is probably the best single idea for evolution I've heard so far besides my own ideas which people don't like due to how un-video-game-like they are.
In short, I vote against this because it can be done in a day or two if someone is avid about it, which translates to anywhere between two hours and two days in-game.
