Sage was leaning against a large tree with her black cap hiding her face and whistling to the tune of a song in the head. It was late afternoon so the sky was darker than a few hours ago and the air was cool. Because of the cool weather, she wore a black and white striped sweater to keep her warm and comfortable and wore dark gray skinny denim jeans to keep her warm as well. She looked at the bare ground area that looked like a good area to battle at since they could clearly see each other during the battle. She waiting for a girl she never trained with before and now, agreed to have a battle with her. She thought it would be nice to make more girl friends than guy friends nowadays. She did have more guy friends in the pokemon academy but now, she missed talking with more girls who she possibly could relate to. She didn’t have to worry or be constantly thinking if her guy friends liked her or not or just her friend because she looked attractive. She did have guy friend in the pokemon academy but she found out by one of his friends that he just wanted to get with her because apparently she was hot and didn’t really much about her except for her looks. Now the girl, Adriel, the girl who she was going to battle and train with seemed like a really cool girl and down-to-earth. She was glad she met her. Adriel looked cute and also serious about battling too. That was a good thing because she wanted to concentrate on being a better trainer and fire specialist rather than being in relationships that would distract her goal. Well if there was a guy who would support her and keep her grounded in her goals, she wouldn’t mind too much.
Now here she was, waiting for her training partner and opponent to battle with her. She remembered that Adriel was most likely going to use her shieldon who really needed some battling experience. That choice was perfect because Sage’s darumaka, Bandit needed some battling experience instead of just training with her and her other pokemon. Her other pokemon had looked at Bandit like he wasn’t serious about training his battling skills. But unknown to her other pokemon, Sage had seen her darumaka training late at night when all her other pokemon were deep in slumber. Bandit actually was the one who trained the most out of her fire type pokemon because he would train day and night time. But still, he still played pranks on her other pokemon and pissed them off every now and them. It seemed like he didn’t gain their trust yet because the rest of the fire type would usually glare at him. The only one who seemed to accept him was Sage’s magmortar, Huo who would wave hello at him when his little sister numel, Amor wasn’t looking since she held some dislike over him. Sage had to find out a way to get all her fire type pokemon to trust each other. It wasn’t good for the team dynamics when pokemon don’t trust each other completely. She felt a bit lonely so she got Bandit’s poke ball out of her belt and threw his ball up in the air. As he came out and jumped onto the bare grassy area where they would battle, she caught his poke ball and put it back onto her silver belt. She said to him, “Let’s wait for Adriel Bandit” as he then nodded and sat down next to her.

As Adriel walked on her way to the meeting place that she and Sage had agreed on, both she and her Shieldon, who was walking beside her, were getting pumped up. It would be the Shieldon's first battle, and they were both quite excited to see whether or not their training had paid off. Adriel was also rather excited...though for a slightly different reason. Sage, to put it mildly, was rather hot. And Adriel always welcomed a chance to interact with attractive girls.
It wasn't often that she agreed on a battle in advance, but the idea intrigued her a bit. And it gave her some time to work a potential strategy. She could just spam Stone Edge and take the opponent out in one hit...but she liked giving her opponents a fighting chance. Of course, this also left her with only one or two reliable attacks. But, then again, she was at her best when she was thinking on her feet. Either way, she soon arrived at the meeting spot and, upon seeing Sage, she waved and called out to her. "Hey! Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long!"

Sage felt a mild breeze blow onto her face causing some dirt specks to blow onto her eyes. She rubbed her eyes and after rubbing her eyes, saw a girl with a small shieldon walking beside her from a distance. Was that Adriel and her pokemon? The girl did have Adriel’s trademark noticeable red hair so it must be her, she hoped. She could not be her. Seeing her come closer, it was obvious the girl was Adriel. She could recognize that tough looking cutie anywhere. Her darumaka hopped up and down in excitement seeing the other girl and especially his opponent. His mistress wanted him to fight the serious looking shieldon for battle experience but he just wanted to just play around and do whatever he wanted to do. But still, his mistress was very nice to him so it didn’t hurt to listen to her once in a while.
Aiming to be a fire type specialist, she knew it would be a hard road ahead of her because she was so used to training with her grass type pokemon, Zeal and strategies she used with him, she couldn’t use them anymore. It would have been nice to have some healing and status inducing moves on darumaka. But she had to adjust. Fire types were mostly offensive pokemon so things would be different in battling with others. She actually just wanted to be a fire type specialist because she at least wanted to have a set goal in her mind. She really didn’t have many goals to begin with before then.
After Adriel came closer to her and said that she hoped she didn’t keep her waiting too long, Sage responded, “Oh no, I was just waiting like five minutes or so. Not too long at all.” She gave the girl a playful foxy smile and said, “Ready to train up our pokemon and battle?” She locked her eyes of fire onto the girl and continued smiling, “It’s nice to see you again.” She then walked some distances away with her darumaka, Bandit to make space for the bare battlefield. She called out to Adriel, “I’m ready when you are!”

Once Sage indicated that she was ready, Adriel and her Shieldon nodded to each other, then to Sage "Alright, then! Let's get this party started!" She looked to the opponent and thought over what her first move should be. After a moment of considering her options, she nodded quietly "Alright then! Wall, let's start off with an Iron Defense! After that, go in with a Tackle!" The Shieldon nodded. First, she hunkered down for a moment, her body shining brightly for but a moment as it became harder. This would allow her to take physical hits better. Then she charged toward the Darumaka, attempting to land a body blow on the Fire-type.

Sage heard Adriel ordering her Shieldon to use Iron Defense making her curse inwardly knowing that Shieldon already had a high defense stat and sharply raising its defense would make Bandit have a harder time affecting the pokemon with his physical attacks. The only thing that came up in her mind first was to use belly drum, which would max out Bandit’s attack stat and give him more of an edge to battle Adriel’s pokemon. But it was just too early to use that and she didn’t want to risk it—yet. She didn’t know what tricks Adriel had nor did she know all of Shieldon’s moves and TMs the pokemon might have so it was better to stick with the basics for now. She then heard Adriel order her pokemon to use Tackle making her wonder why her opponent chose that attack for her pokemon to use.
She watched as the Shieldon glowed a bright white color and looked shinier but actually hardened it’s exterior to unfortunately, increasing it defense stat. Sage felt a bit panicked because her Darumaka, Bandit was new to battling and knew mostly physical attacks than any special attacks. Suddenly, she saw the tiny Shieldon beginning to charge at her Darumaka and Sage quickly began ordering her pokemon. As the Shieldon charged closer and closer, she immediately ordered, “Dodge it now!” Being his mischievous self, Bandit stuck his tongue out at his opponent and sprinted off to the side to dodge the tackle attack and once he dodged it and skidded to the side of the pokemon, she ordered, “Fire Punch!” Bandit’s fists becames surrounded in red-orange fire ready to punch the Shieldon to the side zooming in closer and closer.

The Shieldon, not being all that fast, was unable to get out of the way in time. Thus, the Fire Punch hit her square on the forehead, the sheer force of it pushing her back a bit. Still, her naturally high defense, combined with having used Iron Defense, allowed her to take the direct hit and still have plenty of fight left. Adriel nodded "Alright! Let's kick things up a notch! Charge in with Take Down!" The Shieldon nodded and broke into a mad charge, flying toward the Darumaka with a reckless ramming attack.
